Honestly, I think Chip likes 12 personnel better than 3 WRs anyway. If they can keep DJax/Maclin and Cooper, you'd probably only see Cooper on less than 50% of their plays anyway. I'm thinking Ertz is going to have a break out year and with DJax/Mac/Celek, that should be plenty of targets.

The guy choked in two playoff games. We need an upgrade there. For half the year he was at the BOTTOM statistically for starting wideouts. Yes, as I stated he made a couple nice plays.
There's nothing special about the guy as a player.

I found this quote from the article I posted earlier interesting.
In games 1-5, Cooper had all of eight catches with Michael Vick under center. Once Foles took over as signal-caller for games 6-10, Coop lodged all three of his 100-yard performances and six of his eight touchdowns. In games 11-16 though, he was ordinary at best, posting a high of 74 yards and reaching the end zone just once more.
Again, I'd take him back at the right price, but this putting Cooper on a pedastel like he's a top flight WR is wrong.Last edited by Sect 236; 01-09-2014, 11:54 AM.

If you're a size queen...
Here is the list of "big" WRs available in FA
Seyi Ajirotutu 6'3" 215
Danario Alexander 6'4" 220
Kenny Britt 6'3" 225
Plaxico Burress 6'4" 230
Riley Cooper 6'3" 220
Eric Decker 6'3" 220
Kassim Osgood 6'4" 220
Brian Robiskie 6'3" 215
Kevin Walter 6'3" 220
Joe Webb 6'3" 220
I doubt Mike Evans will be available in the draft, but if they upgrade the DBs in FA, maybe they could try Kelvin Benjamin.
Cooper has demonstrated he can be successful in this offense, and would be cheaper than Decker. If signing Decker, the only clear upgrade IMO, over Cooper means another season with Chung is that a trade-off you're willing to stomach?
Personally...having a Top 5 offense with Cooper and without Maclin...I'd rather use most available resources to upgrade the defensive CB and S, defensive pass rushers, special teams kicker and special teams kick returner.

Also forgotten man, Arrelious Benn. Big guy, 2nd round draft pick. Torn ACL in the summer but serious potential. Under contract to the Eagles for 2014.
I'd rather re-sign Maclin than Cooper. And yes, this is an either/or situation. They won't be able to afford both.

but the two plays I will remember him most for: not fighting for the ball on the season ending playoff loss to the Peckers a couple years ago, and muffing that third down wide open pass in the season ending playoff loss this year.

Nay, Georgie -- Can't Agree With You
I'd keep Avante because he seems to fit this system, offer Maclin a reasonable contract for a guy coming off his injury and if he says no -- and if it becomes case of keeping Cooper or Maclin -- say, "Buh-bye" to Maclin. Then I'd sign re-sign Cooper quicker than you can say, "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious."
Yeah, he picked a horrible time to drop a pass, but he made enough big catches during the season and proved he can be every bit the big play receiver Maclin is -- better, in fact, because Maclin's best yards per catch average was 13.8 yards.
He's the best "big receiver" they've drafting since Hoagie and I'm not ready to toss him away to take a chance on another kid in the draft who, the odds say, will be the next Billy McMullen."If I owned Texas and Hell, I'd rent out Texas and live in Hell!"

I don't think anyone, other than KG apparently, will be shitting themselves if Cooper leaves. DJax, Maclin, Shady, Seelick, Ertz and whoever they'd replace Cooper with would surely give Chip plenty of options to play with.

Maclin > Cooper
Anyone that argues that really doesn't know much about football (that is your M.O.). Again, Cooper had a nice year, but you can't let Maclin go to keep Cooper. Maclin provides much more to this team.

I would bring back a healthy Maclin and go after the best big physical receiver available.
see ya Riley.
at least there's no Andy
