He was a good sports writer but it appears he had some problems in his personal life which affected a number of people in a terrible manner.

I thought he died ten years ago.

      I was never a fan.

Same here. I think he was good a while ago, but he just got old and ugly, both personally and professionally. I'm sorry that he's gone, but I'm not sure that I'll miss him much.

All that I'll ever remember about him

Is that he's the guy who thought that Nolan friggin Ryan was not worthy of being a first ballot hall of famer.

I always thought he was a great sportswriter

and I mean GREAT. I know he wasn't everyone's cup of tea.

if the allegations against him were true, and all indications are that they were...he was not a great person.

I got tired of every column having a pre Civil War reference. Great, you know history and shit. What does that have to do with whether the Phillies will win? Self important slob.

in the end it was a mess...he did the right thing and stepped back,,,retired.

He made you think...rare in a sportswriter

As I stated, he wasn't for everyone. That same Civil War history that you abhor was the same mentality he translated to Phillies history. It gave his articles a rare insight and depth.

At the same time his writing was forceful and incendiary...nobody was better than Conlin after a bitter Philly loss. He skewered players, management whomever he felt was at fault.

From a pure writing standpoint, he was a guy I aspired to be like when I was coming up in the biz.

The personal stuff that justifiably ended his career in disgrace was a tragedy for the victims.

                        That is all.

You just KNOW Kelly Green was a BIG fan

                            You know it.

For the record, I always thought Conlin was a good writer. I had no idea about any of this child abuse stuff.
