  • Jairus Byrd?

What are the chances we sign this guy in the offseason? Do we have cap room?
Canada is like a really nice apartment over a meth lab.

They have the room -- but probably won't use so much of it for one player. Unless he costs way less than projected, no way.

He might get the franchise tag again.

There are definitely concerns about Byrds ability to man up in December/January due to his size ( 5'10" ). As the weather turns, so does the physicality of the game and smaller guys are at a huge disadvantage

That's not an issue in Buffalo where they are usually out of it during those months, but for a team with Title aspirations its a tough call

Here's a good read from SI on the increased use of man coverage and how that impacts safeties used to playing a deep zone. Byrd may or may not be a good man coverage guy, but against some of the bigger WRs, he'll struggle

        http://mmqb.si.com/2014/01/16/new-en...e-man-defense/

There are other reasons man coverage works in today’s NFL, such as tempo. Offenses are playing faster from snap to snap, on the logic that more plays equals more chances to score (and more chances to establish a game-controlling rhythm and wear down the defense).
With less time between snaps, defenses aren’t able to coordinate their spacing and assignments in zone. So they just line up and say, “I’ve got him, you’ve got that guy.” Offenses will keep playing fast because it’s also a great way to simplify things for the quarterback. A defense that doesn’t have enough time to coordinate spacing and assignments also doesn’t have enough time to organize blitzes or feigned pressure packages.

A nod to the Chip Kelly strategy of going so fast it stresses the defense and forces them into a simpler, default defense.

Speed kills and its a real challenge for the LeBeau types that are used to using disguise and obfuscation before the snap.

Cat and mouse continues and so does the job description of a Safety

I'd like to see a guy like Ryan Clark or Stevie Brown. You may get both for the cost of Byrd.

from the high altitude/sickle cell anemia event he had in Denver.

We have such a dire need for S. Unfortunately, outside of Byrd, the pickings are slim. We may have to settle for another 2nd round draft pick.
