IF Martin had him pinned down and Zimmerman feared for his life, he had a right to defend himself under any state's laws, from what I understand.

I'm not absolving him of any guilt in the altercation, but saying he was let off just because he was in Florida is not accurate, as the defense did not invoke the SYG statute.

But I'm not a lawyer and am sure I don't fully comprehend the nuance of the laws.
