Carl is my second favorite character after Merle. There's an honesty in their behavior that reflects the unexpected decay of the existing society. An underappreciated aspect of this show is the widely varied response to the new paradigm.

Not everyone is capable of immediately dealing with chaos, but given enough time, people adapt. I think that's the basic message of the show.

I've watched the season 4 finale three times. They could have ended the series with that episode and I would have been just fine. I still think the way season 6 ended was perfect.
