1) what does free agency hold for the birds? Maclin back? Cooper?

2) does Chip really care about defense? There are guys out there that can help this team win. 20 mil under says they can help that side of the ball.

3) we'll get more of a feel of what Chip looks for in players like length, speed that type of thing. Last year it was more get guys that know the system ie Chung.

This is so interesting cause its not the same Reid "were fine there" feeling.

You have some good points. I think the biggest thing for them next season is staying healthy. Outside of Maclin (whom we never saw and was somewhat "replaced" by Cooper), this team was incredibly healthy. I don't see that happening again next season. I hope I'm wrong.

20M doesn't go a long way when Byrd and Ward will want 7-8M per year, you need to re-sign Maclin/Cooper or a replacement for them, your draft picks, extend Kelce, and put away some money for Foles in case he has another Pro Bowl type year. Because if he has another outstanding year, at the end of next year is when they can extend him and you can bet his agent will want to get him franchise player type money.

I don't think putting money away for Foles is a good idea. You need to build the team you have when you can. If Foles looks like shit next year, you saved money and potentially missed out on other players for a QB that never happened.

If he plays at a Pro Bowl level, and he's the future, they'll find the money for him.

Don't spend it just to spend it, but don't be overly frugal I guess is what I'm saying.

Chung goes, Casey as well and maybe Avant. I would think that Byrd or Ward are more than likely going to price themselves out of the equation. I agree with putting some money away for Foles and I really need to see Kelce better against the run before I would extend him. You free up some money when Chungs ass hits the door and maybe restructure Peters.

As I see it going down:

Kelly is already going over all the mistakes he made in season 1. Players, plays and groupings. There are new coaches and known weakness's on defense.

The BIGGEST NEED IS PRESSURE ON THE QB. How ever they go about correcting the lack of pressure is the question.

Kelly's Offense is going to move the ball and score points, The WR's are going to be Worked out. Maclin will be resigned to a 1 year deal option for second. Think about how good Cooper was in this offense and Maclin is a better wide-out prior to injury. Cooper's value is in this offense and should improve in year 2 with 5 more games with Foles.

Health was a huge key this past season and hope for that trend to continue, Kelly's conditioning program is going to be copied by every team in the league.

Think Mid-level FA's and high character guys who are football lifers. In year two Kelly is still trying to build a program and the results need to continue. Competition at every position! Think Donte Whitner at SS to go along with Wolff and a draft Pick to compete. Look for a OLB early in the draft and overall draft Best Player Available in each round to add as many good "big guys beat little guys". The relationship with Kelly and the front office should improve with a year together and the ability to identify the types of players the coach wants.

There are a number of guys who could stand to get extensions/restructuring/paycuts that will actually lower their number for this year (Ryans, Peters?).

I agree with the other point in another response that you can't save big money for Foles based on a one year "success."

My gut feeling on all of this is that after seeing what Chip's staff did with some average, green or older players in a new scheme on both sides of the ball with mostly new coaches, the ONE thing that I really don't want to see them do is throw big money at a free agent, I just don't think it's necessary and would take money away for other needs.

I really want to see what Chip goes after in the draft, and let them build from there, I think Celek has another year left in him, along with Cole, I would not have said that last year.

I think Foles will come back down to earth next season, Bill Musgrave was a good hire, but I don't think he will get as much out of Foles as Lazor did. I see Foles as a guy who doesn't turn the ball over much, like Alex Smith...now he had better weapons this year that's why he had some big production games. I can see them taking another qb if one is there that they like 2nd or 3rd round or even 1st if a guy slips, it's a decent draft for qb. You can't bank on Foles to have another season like he did this year.

It would be foolish to use a high draft pick on a qb this year. Maybe foles will suck but if you draft expecting it you wont address your areas that you KNOW need fixed. Foles earned the benefit of the doubt going into next season.

No, I got it, but Foles doesn't compare to Wilson was my point. Wilson's done it for two years now, Foles did it for some of one season.

To write in ink that Foles is a Pro Bowl QB every year based off of this year is a mistake IMO. He looked great, but let's not overestimate him until we've seen it in back to back years. How some Eagles fans feel about Foles right now is how I'm sure a lot of Bucs fans felt about Josh Freeman after his one Pro Bowl season.

Young QBs can continue to develop, they can plateau or they can regress. Let's let it play out.

So what is the backup plan if Foles sucks? Barkley? I think he looked overmatched when he played, rookies now should be able to come right in and perform. Sure we have other needs, but quarterback is the most important position on the field, if there is a guy who is a fit early, I bet Chip takes him because he is a smart man. Plenty of other draft picks and free agency guys to fill other holes.
