  • Re:NFL Coach of the year--I don't get it

I know the voting takes place at the end of the regular season, but how does a guy who has no NFL head coaching experience take over a team that was shit the year before, with a bare cupboard on the defensive side of the ball, put in new offensive and defensive systems, go through 3 QBs, lead his team to the NFC East title with a 10-6 record and not be named NFL coach of the year.

But the Panthers won their division...oh, wait...

If you told me last summer that the Panthers would win the NFC South in a division with the Saints and Falcons, and also post the 2nd best record in the conference earning a 1st round bye, I'd ask you to share whatever it is you're smoking.

There were a number of deserving candidates this year including Reid, Kelly, Arians, and even Carroll. But awarding it to Rivera is not a travesty.

It's not Ref's fault that he's so much smarter, rational and sophisticated than the rest of us...

            I agree with this post

            Certainly not shocking.

Congrats to Rivera. I think he and Reid's other early hires were mostly responsible for FFs early success.

the panthers winning their division was no more shocking than the eagles winning their division. but they had a better season, earning the first round bye. their regular season wins over new orleans, san francisco, and new england were also more impressive than the eagles' best regular season wins.

would have loved to have seen chip win it but the NFC east was weak. ron also gets some credit for taking the pressure off of cam newton. in the past, whenever it seemed like rivera would get fired, cam newton would save him with a few good games. rivera's defense dominated and allowed cam newton to throw for 200 a game instead of having to do everything.
