  • Phone Scam Going On

    http://www.wtae.com/news/local/alleg...z/-/index.html

I just got a call from one of those area codes about 10 minutes ago.

    ---
They're using autodialers to call thousands and thousands of our cellphones. And they let it ring once, and then when the consumers goes to look to see who called, some that may be pretty curious may call that number back and automatically you’re going to be charged an additional $30 on your phone bill,” said the BBB’s Warren King.

The calls cost $20 up front and $9 for each additional minute.

Some of the area codes being used are 473, 809, 876, 284 and 268.

i got one of those a few weeks ago - 809.

It was an area code I've never heard of (Haiti?) so I just googled it. Got about the same info.

I'm curious if this is related to the Target hack?

I don't know. My sister got a call almost the exact same time I did and we have numbers that are very close sequentially so I think it may just be auto-dialing.

I just heard about this. My old boss will be spending a ton of money once they find him. He calls back EVERY missed call he gets. I tried telling him don't bother unless they leave a message or you know who it is but he never listened.
