He spent the last few years in Hawaii doing a medical residency. He's on the rounds for a fellowship now. He's a bit older than the typical fellow as he had a brief career as an engineer before he decided to become a surgeon.
Anyway, he had good things to say about Hawaii and in particular the place where he lived. He told me the person he and his wife was renting a house from (near a sparsely occupied non tourist beach) offered to sell it to him for 875K but he couldn't do it on a resident's salary. He probably could have gotten it for less if he had been able to bargain.
