What do you mean it would be a parallel if Sam wore rainbow stickers?
I just don't see that sort of activism with Sam to date. It could happen.--------

Religious belief is a choice. Sexual orientation - like skin color, sex, and physical/mental ability - is not.
Questioning/accepting a choice that another person has made is nothing at all like questioning/accepting something that they have no choice over.--

I don't disagree that Tebow was more flamboyant about his religiosity than Sam is about his sexual preference.
But I still see a parallel to the extent that I agree with Mushnick's readers who think you either consider religion worthy of respect as much as sexual preference or you don't ... and flamboyance of expression doesn't change that concept for me.Last edited by slag; 02-16-2014, 07:48 PM.Obscenity is the last refuge of an inarticulate motherfucker.

I have little doubt if michael is as good as tebow in the nfl he wont be on a team either.
I don't want to see any group ripped on for who they are. I just dont see it happening to christians the way it dies to other groups
The Eagles own Brad Smith was the starting QB at Mizzou from his freshman year. Had no chance of being an NFL QB, just like Tebow. Unlike Tebow, he learned a new position and at least is hanging on at the fringes of the league.

Your mealy mouthed transformation of "mocking" into "questioning/accepting" notwithstanding, that's pretty fucking stupid.
By that logic, discrimination based on religion should be in a different category than that based on race, sexual preference, etc.

Funny that the question isn't "Why did so many mock Brian Dawkins' religiosity?"
OH right...cause no one didLast edited by DJCon57; 02-16-2014, 10:22 PM.

Hey, what's your thoughts on pedophiles?
He was lauded and mocked by the public and the media because he decided to bring religion very overtly into football. He chose to do that. He wasn't born with scripture-versed eye black on his cheeks. It's not an inherent biological characteristic.
He made a conscious decision to publicly display his beliefs - which some people hold and others do not. It's perfectly acceptable to the ones that agree with him to say so and the ones that disagree to say so as well. That doesn't mean he loses his right to hold those beliefs, but other don't lose their rights to question them.
Regardless, the mocking mostly had to do with the fact that he received so much publicity for something totally unrelated to football and that publicity just grew.
As for religion - it's perfectly acceptable to question the beliefs and actions of another person. Just like it's acceptable to question their political views, their views on education, war, etc. It's a choice to hold those beliefs and views. Non-believers are questioned by Christians and deists all the time. Liberals and conservatives question each other constantly.
As for discrimination, that's different. Tebow hasn't been discriminated against because of his religion. He's been discriminated against because he sucks at playing quarterback at the professional level of football.
That's why it's a terrible question. It's a false flag to make Christians feel better about being intolerant of homosexuality - an inherent biological characteristic of some people.
Christians and followers of many religions in general have used "religious belief" for centuries to hold down people due to race, sex, and sexuality. Just because people choose to be intolerant doesn't mean they get to use belief in supernatural beings as a blanket from being called insensitive assholes.
To discuss your strawman argument. Pedophilia a mental sickness that leads to horrible acts against children. It should be treated as well as possible and pedophiles should be kept away from children. If they can't keep themselves away then it's up to society to do it for them.--

It was an intentional strawman to spotlight your silly notion that choice is an excuse to give religion less respect than homosexuality.
And your serious response makes me laugh ... while simultaneously making me shake my head because it ignores the notion that someone could justify not questioning pedophiles because they can't help themselves, when comparing that to religion, in the same way you argue homosexuals are immune from question.
Furthermore, I am not fooled by any horseshit attempt to lump Tim Tebow kneeling in the endzone with fanatics who harm others in the name of their religion.
Tim Tebow did nothing more than the players who go into the endzone before every game I attend and pray in front of me ... including special team players who never quarterbacked a playoff win.
Neither they nor Tebow deserve ridicule for practicing their religion in that manner.
Congratulations, you've joined the hypocrites Mushnick's readers (and I) see intentionally ignoring the inherent inconsistency between someone lauding Sam for expression of sexual preference while mocking Tebow's harmless display of religious expression.
Now there's a fucked up choice.Last edited by slag; 02-17-2014, 09:40 AM.Obscenity is the last refuge of an inarticulate motherfucker.

Now there's a fucked up choice.
He was basically being a Jesusy T.O/Ochocinco, which is why he was criticized for his celebration. And to that point, who was really criticizing him for it? ESPN did their expected, "Should Tebow stop praying after scoring TDs?," but I never saw it as a major point of contention with people. No player or GM ever suggested he should've kept his religious beliefs a secret or that a locker room wouldn't necessarily accept him for being a Christian.
Again, this is a poor attempt at stirring the pot and a false equivalency.Last edited by Melchior; 02-17-2014, 11:21 AM."If I was racist in my opinion of QB's, I wouldn't have a dog named Donovan." - downundermike

That's the difference between reaction to him and Tebow or any other Christian/religious person trying to make this false comparison.--
