Yeah, I'll dumb it down. My kicking martin's ass was an extremely sarcastic statement meant as a retort to the auto tough guy label anyone gets for thinking martin is soft.

Maybe, i'll give you bonus points for at least understanding the comparison and sarcasm. Has Martin been diagnosed with a mental health issue or is it now just assumed? Just curious?

You and people of your ilk think that someone as big as Martin who plays football should never be bullied. That his first response in any situation like that should be to kick ass first and ask questions later, and if he actually asks for help with a situation like that, he's soft. If he had gone all Jovan Belcher on Incognito, you'd be calling him a coward for doing it that way instead of telling management. sarcasm. ok.

The problem is that people assume that physical size drives social dominance when that's just not the case. Success, popularity, money and connections are far more important in social groups like this.

If Martin was a badass son of a bitch and beat the shit out of Incognito and Pouncey, he still wouldn't have earned the respect of the group. In fact, he would've gotten shit-canned and ostracized, and probably even called unstable/crazy for fighting one of their best players.

Short of magically becoming an All-Pro, there was nothing Martin could've done to change the way he was treated in that locker room.

You're not smart enough to form my opinions.

"I figured out a major source of my anxiety. I'm a push over, a people pleaser. I avoid confrontation whenever I can, I always want everyone to like me. I let people talk about me, say anything to my face, and I just take it, laugh it off, even when I know they are intentionally trying to disrespect me. I mostly blame the soft schools I went to, which fostered within me a feeling that I'm a huge pussy, as I never got into fights. I used to get verbally bullied every day in middle school and high school, by kids that are half my size. I would never fight back, just get sad & feel like no one wanted to be my friend, when in fact I was just being socially awkward. Most people in that situation are witty & quick with sarcastic replies, I never have been. I'm awkward around people a lot of the time because I simply don't know how to act around them "

Maybe saying something? Martin is a self-confessed pussy. Agreeing with him makes you the toughest man on the internet. Wear the belt with pride. Truth is, calling Martin soft has nothing to do with him not physically confronting anyone (which EIO seems to obsess with). How about saying cut the shit, it's not cool instead of smiling about it or going along with it? It's probably why the entire locker room turned on Martin. I'm sure boundaries get pushed constantly and considerably in a locker room. If it wasn't working out in that place and he had to leave, then fine but why not say something? How would Incognito know that Martin isn't handling the ball busting? I think Martin and Incognito were just contradicting personalities, I've thought that since the beginning. I think my thread title was Incognito is a piece of shit and Martin is a soft pussy. If Pussy is too strong of a word, he is socially inept at the least. It's pretty obvious Martin was trying to play along or be one of the guys, but if something is bothering you, you say something. It has nothing to do with how big or tough martin is or isn't. He's an adult. If he needed psychiatric help and he got it, good for him. Why burn Incognito and the other parties without saying he had a problem with the bs to them? That's not saying Incognito doesn't deserve blame, like I said, he's a piece of shit person. Martin admitted to having a history of not being comfortable in his own skin all the way back to middle school and now it's magnified that much more.

I agree with that. I think Martin probably should've said something, if just for his own sake. I still don't think it would've changed anything.

If you read the texts, there's a message where Martin calls Incognito on "ur racist shit" and Incognito just ignores it and goes right along. While I agree that Incognito didn't realize how much it was affecting Martin, you still can't tell me that he doesn't realize that it wears on someone.

I don't know... I agree that Martin is probably "softer" than most NFL players, but then again, every locker room isn't like this and there are a number of teams where he probably never would've had to go through this. Rookie hazing is one thing, and he seemed to be willing to accept that, but this shit went way too far.

Incognito's history fits the dick head mold. No questioning or denying it. Would Martin saying something to him or pouncey have stopped the bs? Maybe not. Supposedly they were "friends". 1200 texts in a year. If Martin said something along the lines of "dude I'm sick about this shit, it's breaking me" Incognito would have either gone harder on him in which case Martin walks or he would have eased up a little. I'm guessing here but Incognito would have probably still been a dick, at least Martin would have voiced his side to Incognito instead of just scampering off and blind-siding the locker room.

Incognito ?? Yes, because I could see Richie saying "Gee, Jonathan, I had no idea that it was affecting you this way. I'll tell Mike and John to back off, as will I. I'm really sorry". Or maybe he could have gone to his general manager. Oh wait, that's right, I forgot that Jeff Ireland went to the Greenstealth School of Critical Thinking, and would have just told Martin to stop being a pussy and man up. Perhaps he could have gone to the equipment manager. Nope. That same equpiment manager did nothing, even when he saw the assaults directed at a member of his own staff. Could he have gone to Philbin ? No. Philbin claims absolute ignorance in this whole mess. So who should he have gone to, and if he does go to someone, how is he going to continue to deal with a locker room that now potentially sees him as a snitch and may ostracize him ? Yeah, I'M the one who isn't smart enough......

I often confuse this thread with the Michael Sam thread... then I say to myself, "Oh, this is the big pussy guy thread."

I don't particularly care how he said it, he should have said something and I agree, Incognito probably wouldn't have let up. AT LEAST HE WOULD HAVE SAID SOMETHING AND THE PLAYERS WOULD HAVE KNOWN THERE WAS A PROBLEM. There are ways to confront people without violence but that seems to have escaped you. If someone was ruining my life on a daily basis I would confront that person, what a crazy thought. Martin by his own admission is soft, he couldn't handle it and bring himself to tell Incognito to cut the shit. I agree with him, that makes me a hard ass.
