  • I love Walmart's new commercial

Where they pledge to bring all these jobs to America...guess they meant North America because why else would you have the theme for the ad being Canada's RUSH song "Working Man"?

Great song, great band, but they should have gone with a US made product IMO if trying to sell an idea to a US audience.

Just me being picky I suppose.

It subtly suggests that WalMart will pay all these workers with canadian dollars... and not very much of those at that.

Fuck WalMart. Nothing but a bottom feeding corporation that pays min wage and pockets huge profits.

          Huge profits? Hardly

Huge sales is more like it. 17 billion profit on 470 billion sales is chump change compared to a company like Apple - almost 42 billion in profit on 156 billion in sales.

Let's not pretend that Walmart and its owners haven't profited.

The six Waltons who own over 50% of Walmart have a combined net worth of 150 billion dollars.

It's a company that is abusive/oppresive to both its workers and its suppliers. But it's so big that employees and suppliers can do little about it.

So what? Most of that money is from inherited stock valuation

Bill Gates and Warren Buffet are two of the top 4 richest men in the world. I just find it funny how some people think big oil and Walmart are these horribly greedy companies because of their profits yet seem to have no problem with Apple or Microsoft.

I have a big problem with Apple, and Steve Jobs when he was alive. From manufacturing to acquiring rare earths, to censuring apps to be used on their products, Apple is hardly saintly. Jobs was well known to be an asshole as well.

Both Gates and Buffett are philanthropists and have freely given back much of their personal wealth all over the world. The Walton Family is pretty damn far down the list. Gates and Buffett exemplify proper behavior from the exceedingly rich. Buffett famously ridiculing the tax structure that has him the lowest taxed person in his office.

Gates and Buffet are greedy bastards and are only giving a small fraction of their wealth. No one should have a net worth more than 1 billion. If they both immediately gave away 95% of their net worth I'd be impressed.

I agree. Nothing said more to me about the values of the Walton family when they tried to move that painting out of Philadelphia. There is nothing wrong with being wealthy but it's pretty obvious to me that that family is not a good thing for our world.

The guy who started the company may have had some productive ideas but now we are down to people inheriting wealth instead of creating it. People who inherit wealth add little to our society, IMO.

I thought America was supposed to be against aristocracy. I'm completely in favor of a "Death Tax" over a certain estate value.

Why do you think people don't have a problem with Microsoft and Apple? The problem with Walmart is that their giant corporation offers nothing to society aside from increased consumerism. Apple and Microsoft may be greedy companies but at least they offer innovation. That doesn't exonerate them from being greedy companies that abuse the general public but it puts them above Walmart.

Walmart has its own special place as being an "evil corporation". They're so big that everyone else has to fall in line otherwise they'll crush you.

They both give more of their wealth than the Walton family. And all three gave more than Jobs.

The point is that Buffett in particular, but Gates too, are trying to be part of the solution instead of just part of the problem. The Waltons have a distorted view of what's good for America.

Really. Disliking Walmart doesn't mean you approve of other bad business practices by other corportations.
