I'm not going to go crazy. He had a great year. I'm as sold on him as Chip Kelly is. This year will give me a better idea.

I also heard they want to let Cooper go knowing someone will overpay him and would consider Edelman instead of Maclin if they can't get a deal done with him.

Everything I have read this draft is loaded at WR

-Look around for another low-cost FA (or trade)
-Drafting another pass-catching TE and/or DAT
Maclin if healthy is as good as Cooper in this offense IMO, so in effect it becomes a push. If one of the top 3 WR's in the draft fall to pick 22 it is a done deal. Kelly is all about weapons and options: Williams, Lee or Benjiman would become 1A to Jackson, moving Maclin to the slot. This would become a huge upgrade over what we put on the field last season.

But isn't Edelman as small as Jackson? and more of a slot receiver?

There isn't a system in the NFL more perfectly suited for Maclin

I don't think they should break the bank for Cooper and they certainly shouldn't match any unreasonable offers.. That said, he has gotten better each year, and obviously broke out, like many other players, under a real coach. Another thing to consider is his value as a run blocker..

Did you hear that from the same place you hear Minnesota wanted to trade Kevin Love for ET and Thad?

I'd have to believe that along with teaching him

more about the offense in his second year and adding more responsibilities to his game, Zach Ertz will have a huge role in red zone play this coming season. He's a big target and would more than mitigate losing Riley Cooper as I could see Ertz moving to the wide receiver slot on some plays.

                        Agreed about Ertz

and I doubt Kelly would hesitate to pull the trigger on any offensive weapon, including TE.

Injury history is scary but Sidney Rice would be interesting at the right price. 6-4.

This makes a lot of sense. Especially with Celek lined up tight to the tackle most plays, Ertz will probably be slot receiver in a lot of sets.

Another thing to consider in the Maclin v. Cooper debate: Cooper was mediocre until Chip's offense and then became a serviceable #2. Doesn't it then stand to reason that Maclin, who was a solid #2 until Chip Kelly, could easily become a solid 1a under the Kelly offense.

Maclin has more natural ability. Injury history is the only drawback, and that's not the concern it used to be. I still say Cooper is a little bit of a shithead anyway, so let him walk.

With Avant, Arrelious Benn, Ertz, a deep WR draft, and a buyer's market at FA all options for #3 WR, I don't see how keeping Cooper is needed.

If they can draft Colt Lyerla, they could just say fuck WR. Have Lyerla and Celek tight with Ertz in the slot or the other way around.

Edit: I could've sworn they timed him at 4.47 earlier but the site shows 4.61.

Lyerla seems like a long-term project. Big potential, but I wouldn't be comfortable counting on him for anything. Worth a low-round flier, though.

Also, I'm not sure they've given up on James Casey. If Avant (or whoever is WR3 this season) loses snaps, Casey could start to take some of those snaps.
