  • Clowney

    Ran a 4.47.

Freakish athletic ability no doubt, but still don't think he has the drive or work ethic to succeed in the NFL.

Imagine him and Robert Quinn as your bookend DE's? Jesus.....

i think he had zero interest in playing last year. was just trying to stay healthy and not lose his lottery ticket. Should be fun to see how he pans out, that's for sure.

I see him turning into a Albert Haynesworth. He'll be good for a few years but once he starts making big money, he'll turn into a lazy bum.

Texans have a hard decision. Having Watts and Clowney on the line would be epic.
500 internet fights, that's the number I figured when I first joined igglephans. 500 internet fights and you could consider yourself a legitimate internet-tough guy. You need them for experience, to develop leather skin. So I got started. Of course along the way you stop thinking about being tough and all that. It stops being the point. You get past the silliness of it all. But then...after...you realize that's what you are.

Rams might take him, but I think plan A is to trade that pick. They have Chris Long under contract for a long time.

Clowney is getting a crash course in Media 101

The same media that puts you up on a pedastal, stands right next to it, sledgehammers in hand, to destroy it and bring you back down again.

Indeed. The question becomes whether or not you can disavow him of the notion of putting his needs before the teams' needs. I kinda doubt it, but I've never met the guy. His own coach questioned his work ethic...

Can't spend eleventy billion on a self-centered mercenary because he'll sit out with a hangnail and you'll be handcuffed to him for 4-5 years. And for at least two of those, he'll be just trying to stay healthy and not lose his next lottery ticket...

The point is, you expect to see a progression in production to see how a player is developing his technique and instincts. When you get an unexplained dip in production, yes, it sends up a lot of red flags.

Magary acts like he's never seen a player loaf around in a contract year. That's where "passion" and "desire" come in to play. Guys like Dawkins were building a legacy. He took it personally when he put bad play on film. If you accept putting mediocre play on the field for personal reasons, then coaches will not be able to trust you.

He can call it bullshit all he wants, but that's the reality of it.

I think he does a good job of pointing out the realistic aspects of professional sports vs. the idealistic narrative/misconceptions that fans have.

How often do fans get pissed when players smile after a loss and/or appear to be friendly with players that are "bitter rivals"?

How often do fans complain that these guys should just shut up and be happy they're getting paid to play a game?

Professional athletes are doing a job. They don't have to be personally invested in the fandom of their team or the glory of the NFL to do their job if they are true professionals. How many average joes are competent to excellent at their jobs without having passion or singular focus for it comparable to that expected of professional athletes?

Regardless, things like motor only get players so far if they don't have talent. Philly fans hate Reno Mahe, but what about that guy ever suggested that he didn't give his all whenever he had a chance? If anyone had a high "motor" and played like a professional it was that guy and he's vilified. Why? Because he lacked talent and that's what matters.

Because being talented and having a "high motor" aren't mutually exclusive. If you're signed to an NFL team, the fans AND the coaches expect you to bust your ass. That's all. I don't care about rivals and smiling.
