  • Peter King at SI reports Eagles met with Manziel

An interesting tidbit in his story on Johnny Football. He listed ten teams that met with him and all of them were at the top of the draft and in a position to take him...except for one, the Iggles.

I know Chip liked him in HS and tried to recruit him to Orgeon and as well as Foles played last year I think Chip still wants a more athletic QB in the Mariota/Kaepernick/Wilson mold that he can run his entire offense with.

While it's probably a very long shot, I think it may be something to keep an eye on. I don't know what it would take to move up and get him, but it likely be pretty steep. Look what the Redskins had to give up just to get Griffin and they didn't have to go nearly as far.

Thoughts on say a package of Foles, our #1, a #3, and a future first?

Personally, I'd stick with Foles at this point

I'm willing to bet they've met with several high profile QB prospect at almost every combine.

It's a good way to get to know the guy they're going to face in the future.

If they gave up on Foles now there would be a riot among Eagles fans. They finally have a tall, pocket passer. One who doesn't seem to have a ginormous ego, says all the right things, is a team player, teammates seem to like and respect him, and has had phenomenal early success that makes a mockery of the hype around the young Bobby Hoying a decade and a half ago.

As I've mentioned a few times, I'm sick and tired of athletic running qb's. The Eagles have had the best of them over the last 30 years. More than any other franchise. Nuttin to show for it. I finally want to have a pocket passer with a brain and an arm and who isn't looking to run every other play. Fuck that!!

If not Foles, I'd prefer Barkley. If not Barkley then some similar QB.

They'd be foolish to give up on Foles, but I'd be willing to bet they're considering giving up on Barkley already. I wouldn't be surprised if another 4th rounder was brought in, and if Barkley has a bad camp, he'll be gone.

Letmebeme- with that deal you are basically mortgaging the next 2 years on Manziel. No thanks.

With the season he had last year I'm living and dying with Foles.

I realy am not sold on Manziel:

Looks like another Ryan Leaf to me, but what do I know?

            I do like Bridgewater though!

If AJ McCarron is available in the 3rd round would you take him? I think I might consider it.

Don't read too much into it. They, would be stupid to not talk to all the high profile players. It might be genuine interest. It might be research. It might be smokescreen.

                  Just due diligence...

You never know what can happen in the draft. There are always players that fall beyond their draft-geek projection. The Packers picked #24 in 2005 and they interviewed Aaron Rodgers even though he was supposed to be a Top 5 pick. You're allowed 60 interviews, may as well use them.

I don't think they're willing to give up on Foles but I think it'd be foolish for them to determine that he's the long-term solution at QB based on 2013 alone.

While I think that Kelly will continue to innovate and find ways to use his players, there is now a decent amount of tape on his offense and Foles running it. Before Foles is truly the franchise QB they need to see how year 2 goes.

I'll admit I was wrong that Foles could ever be as productive as he was this year. I'm more of a Chip fan than a Foles fan, and I think Chip goes a long way to making his QB, whoever that is, better. Foles absolutely deserves every chance to prove he's the next franchise guy this upcoming season, and if he played like he did this year, I'm all in. I believe the term is cautiously optimistic.

That being said, there's ZERO chance Manziel is an Eagle.

Agreed, and we can't say that happens often. You gotta live and die by Foles now after that season, he impressed me from day 1 how got right back up from big hits...tough, accurate passer, doesn't make mistakes...they have to make sure he has plenty of weapons and he'll be fine for years to come.

Oh, Foles definitely deserves a chance and I want to see him be the man. But I don't think the Eagles can take the position that QB is set for the forseeable future.

Absolutely, and its not only the draft; many of those guys will be available later in their careers and teams keep detailed dossiers on all of these guys

Go back a few years and look at the drafts and you'll be surprised how many of them are playing on their 2nd or 3rd team, including guys like DeMeco Ryans

                            http://www.drafthistory.com/index.php/years/2006

Now is the time to do your due diligence, then you add to it over the years. So when a guy comes available, you have face-to face interviews etc to review to help make a good decision. Teams have very deep info on every player and every coach regardless of who they play for this week

                            .

I don't really know that much about him, but if he's there, it sounds like he's going to have to fall there.

So it could be like Barkley again, hoping for upside, right?
