He turned down $30million guaranteed and a shot to be the highest paid safety in teh NFL. Something about this guys stinks.

It works exactly like the Franchise Tag, except Pitt gets zero compensation should they decide not to match any offer he receives from another team.

He'd rather win than just make money? That could be a distinct possibility

Agreed, who wants to stay in Buffalo? They aren't going to be relevant any time soon

Same with Cleveland, any player who signs there is just a mercenary given the total dysfunction

But a bunch of FAs will sign with crappy teams and collect the first couple years of the contract, only to be dumped because all the fluff in the later years makes them expendable. Lather rinse repeat

                    It's ALWAYS about the money.

He probably knows he can get paid handsomely in a city that's a) not Buffalo and b) possibly more of a contender for the playoffs than Buffalo.

If he's going to get paid anyway, why stay someplace he doesn't want to be?

The difference in money actually paid out is usually pretty small
Might as well play for a contender

Agents trumpet the big deal, but most of it is fluff they'll never see
Byrd is done in Buffalo, now we get to see where he chooses

Sometimes too, an agent will swing things one way or another to make sure his back gets scratched on another deal

" I'll push Byrd your direction, but you gotta come through for me on player X who is also looking for a deal to stay in Philly"

                          .

There is no reason now with Byrd and Ward being UFAs that the Birds shouldn't land a quality safety in FA. It might not be either of those two but still they should land someone now that the market is saturated with safeties.

                              Byrd has the larger frame

I could see the Eagles throwing a like deal on the table for Jarius, maybe matching the Bills offer and selling him the come here and be part of something special speech...yes it is always about the Money,,but a chance to win and the Money,,,,sounds like a No brainer....

this guy would make a weakness a possible strength,,and we can go corner in rd 1 this year...Bang! improved backfield.
