I'm not really recalling this reputation. I think the hands thing was well earned, and that he never really had many bad drops. The only time I remember him not catching the ball was last season, or when McNabb was over/under throwing him.

Anytime he caught a pass my buddy and I would refer to him as "The Normally Sure Handed" Jason Avant because without fail, no matter who the announcer was, that's what they would call him when he had a bad drop.

The drop that almost always immediately comes to mind is against the vikings (I believe) when a hail Mary at the end of the game hit avant in the hands in the back of the end zone and he dropped it.

Not an easy catch to make by any stretch but it did hit the "sure handed" avant in the hands.

By all accounts a good guy and a decent player. He'll certainly be missed more off the field than on it. $4 million is a little high of a cap # to put on #4 WR, especially when they've allocated as much as they have to DJax, Cooper and Maclin for next year.

They'll be able to get similar production out of a 3rd or 4th round draft pick.

he will be fondly remembered if for nothing else than the block he made on Desean's return for the game winning TD as time expired vs the NYG.

It was the greatest ending to an eagles game I've ever seen.

They'll miss his blocking the most.

                  Very cool, congrats

did you notice the comment from Buck, he said:

they are going to make the Eagles kick the XP"

Why ? Instead of letting the fans and players celebrate, they have to bring everybody out for an XP with no time left.
Can't return a blocked XP, so what's the point ?

                  .

I recall his drop in the end zone against the Giants in 2010. We narrowly won that game on a 4th down TD brokem by Shady. He also dropped a TD against Chicago that year, and a hail mary against SD the year prior. And his fumble against Buffalo was horrible.

That's all nitpicking. He made tough catches. Good dude. As average a player as they come. Had a good rep because he did what he was asked to do and he never talked.

                        I'd like to see

him possibly come back for minimum money. Since we've locked Coop, Mac, and DJax, one guy I'd like to see them go after a little later in the draft is Martevious Bryant from Clemson. Dude is a physical freak that could blossom under Chip. His producton would be a lot better if he didn't play behind Sammy Watkins and/or DeAndre Hopkins his whole career

Yes - the best of the future to him.
I didn't see this, at this time anyway.
But maybe it makes some sense in the longer term. We'll see, huh?
