The plane took off headed for Beijing. Something caught fire. The pilots started turning electrical shit off to see if it would control the fire. Maybe they even went high altitude on the theory that no oxygen/no burn. They turned left, intending to make a nearby airport, but the smoke overwhelmed them or maybe a slow leak depressurized them and the went Payne Stewart.

The electrical systems went out, but the plane's engines were fine. So everyone was dead but they just kept on going in a straight line until the plane turfed somewhere in the southern Indian Ocean.

Sorry, Riccardo. I think simple explanations are the best.

Why not declare emergency to ATC? They have special smoke hoods for exactly that kind of situation so the pilots can fly the plane and not suffocate. They also have fire extinguishers and lots of training for exactly that type of scenario.

Also would have descended and started dumping fuel to minimize explosion potential.

      Aviate, navigate, communicate

In that order. I didn't say it was ironclad, just the simplest solution.

Far fetched. I think the Chinese shooting them down is more likely

I have a opinion from a former 777 pilot (with a wife who is presently flying one for FedEx) who says that's not at all likely.

Not trying to stir up anything, but just saying that the 777 is highly regarded as a very safe plane by the professionals who fly them.

I think the plane it self is very safe. The cargo it was carrying might not have been.

I know the rules. However, for a plane that wasn't flying erratically you would think that only the most extreme fire/situation would necessitate them not being able to communicate and typically those situations end up in a crash quickly, not 7 hours later.

Im not saying your idea is wrong, but like every idea thrown out there, it has major holes that dont line up with. Another hole is what kind of fire would disable the transponder, shut off the acars system (although it was still powered and longing satellites) yet leave the autopilot working just fine? I work on autopilots, and let me tell you that a failure on any one of 10 or 15 different systems or components will cause the autopilot to kick off.

                Im saying its aliens.

I saw the same theory and it would be plausible except for one thing--they've somehow determined when the plane made the left turn, it wasn't done using the manual controls--it was entered into the aircraft's computer.

Yes, and to further discredit my theory

NBC has reported that the transponder at least was turned off before the final voice communication with the tower.

IFF transponder transmitts the designated Flight Number.

And has an emergency option. Like a ship sending an SOS, nothing about this planes disappearance is normal or expected for a legitimate disaster.

Sounds like you read this article, DB: http://www.wired.com/autopia/2014/03...ectrical-fire/

I tend to agree with this perspective.
