  • Teammates on DJax

Jeremy Maclin has been Jackson's teammate for five years, but he said he has not spoken with his fellow wide receiver since the trade rumors first surfaced. Asked if he wants Jackson back, Maclin said: "I want to win games and obviously DeSean is a very talented player. So I want to win games." "DeSean’s a great talent. That’s undeniable. As far as everything else, he’s come a long way. He’s matured a lot in the NFL. I think that’s part of the process, but it’s not for me to speak on another man’s behalf. So like I said, whatever happens, that’s what we have to roll with."
    Herremans

"I think DeSean’s important to this team. On the other hand, I don’t think there’s one person that’s irreplaceable. I’d like to think that I’m irreplaceable, but I know that’s not the fact. The fact is what they’re trying to do here is create a system to where you don’t have to rely on just the players and who they are. You can just plug guys into the system and have success from there for many years to come."

"There’s fast guys that come out every year in the draft," "But there’s not DeSean Jacksons that come out every year in the draft. And those are the things that you have to weigh out when you’re going through this process. And so I’m just glad I don’t have to make the decisions."
    Trent Cole

"All I can tell you is I think he’s a good person," "I think he’s a really good person and he’s a great player. He’s a guy I’ll never forget. When my career’s done, to the end, that’s a guy I’ll never forget. Just the incredible plays he’s made and what he’s done for the Eagles.

"As a teammate, I think he’s a great guy. He’s always been open to me. I’ve always been open to him. I’ve always talked to him. He’s always talked to me. I consider him one of my brothers. I think he’s a good guy. He has some things in the past that everybody keeps dwelling on. But from my standpoint as a teammate and as a brother to him, I think he’s a good guy."

I think Herremans makes the best point. It's not about one player with Kelly. Jackson had a great year but his absence from the Eagles wouldn't preclude other players from having great years or overall success.

I saw this article too. It's interesting to try to parse the quotes to get a sense of what they really feel about the guy. What they actually say to reporters is probably a mix of their loyalty to Chip, their loyalty to the team, their loyalty to DeSean, and their true feelings.

I still say we're not gonna get the whole story until after DJax is long gone.

I read it but didn't see any video or hear any audio tape. I'd say there's more than a 90 percent chance that the reporter edited it to sound callous. The higher praise for DJax was cut out.

A more accurate quote came from Michael Kendricks a few days ago.

On the other hand, most players stay out of each other's business affairs. It's one area where no one wants to tread.

And Kelly can't win without players. The NFL isn't about anyone's system. If you don't have the horses, the golden chariot just sits in the mud. They need Jackson every bit as much as they need McCoy. Not going to win much without either of them.

It's not screaming from the mountain tops, but they're not going out of their way to diss him, either. However, saying someone is like a brother sounds like pretty high praise to me.

don't mistake a platitude for an actual statement. Ignoring the usual fluff, the real stuff, which these guys (fairly) won't say to the media, lacks a major endorsement...or any endorsement

They just seem to be echoing Kelly for the most part which is basically what they should do if they are keeping their own interests at a priority. The only thing I came away with is that there is no smoking gun, yet. It certainly wasn't a ringing endorsement but there is also nothing damning coming from the article. It suggests that everyone but the fo and Kelly (staff?) are still in the dark.

asked about if desean is part of the culture maclin said:
“I mean, I guess. Like I said, if they’re trying to do whatever they’re trying to do, that’s what they’re trying to do,” Maclin told Clark. “So I don’t know.”

                Someone care to interpret this?

                  I agree with this.
500 internet fights, that's the number I figured when I first joined igglephans. 500 internet fights and you could consider yourself a legitimate internet-tough guy. You need them for experience, to develop leather skin. So I got started. Of course along the way you stop thinking about being tough and all that. It stops being the point. You get past the silliness of it all. But then...after...you realize that's what you are.

Who cares what those clowns think?

Seems to me the only relevant player's perspective on DJ is Foles.
