300 mil for 10 years of Miggy Cabrera...and he just turned 30

    http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/10...st-300-million

Two-time American League MVP Miguel Cabrera has agreed to terms with the Detroit Tigers on a new 10-year contract that will pay him $292 million, a baseball source said.

The new contract, which covers the two years remaining on Cabrera's current deal and eight additional years, is expected to become official later this week, the source said.

According to CBSSports.com, which earlier reported Detroit and Cabrera were closing in on an agreement, the new deal also includes two additional vesting options worth $30 million apiece for years 11 and 12 that could bring the total of the deal to $352 million.

No idea what they're thinking. If not Howard and Pujols, you'd think they'd have learned about the dangers of huge long-term commitments with Prince Fielder.

He's kind of an "old 30 " too. He was breaking down towards the end of last season.

I can't wait to see what Trout gets.

Bad signing but he'll last way longer than Howard.

at least giving trout a gazillion dollars in his (likely) mid-20s is reasonable. But yes, his contract should be well over 30 mil per. Perhaps even 40?

Baseball is going to destroy itself with these contracts. Most ballparks don't sellout now, but prices will continue to rise to pay off these huge contracts.

You get past the silliness of it all. But then...after...you realize that's what you are.

My thoughts as well. $30 mil per year for 10 years is nuts for anyone, but with Trout you're going to get him in his prime years. He probably hasn't even peaked yet, which is insane and potentially worth the dollars. No way Cabrera's next ten years are anywhere near as good as the first ten.

Cabrera's birthday is in two or three weeks, so this is really going to be his 31 year old season. The Tigers will be shelling out $30 million for a 41 year old by the end of this. And it might still be a better deal than the Fielder contract.

The summer he spent playing here for the mudcats (along with dontrelle willis) I must have gone to see him play 15-20x. you just knew from the jump he was going to be unbelievable.

he was just a 19 year old kid while there before getting called up for Florida's WS run. The ball exploded off his bat and in a small venue like their park it was amazing to watch.

one of the greatest hitters of all time.
