No he's not. His contract makes him unable to trade. He doesn't have to rework it to accommodate the Eagles. They aren't going to cut him outright as that would be stupid beyond imagination.
Jackson is now on three consecutive 1 year contracts that will pay him 10 million per year. Compared to other receivers in the league, it is just about on par with what he brings to the field. If his production drops, he's gone or will restructure downward. Plus, over the next several years the top WR salaries will rise and Jackson will be out of the top 10 highest paid anyway.
But this is year to year now. Not a bad deal for the player or the team if the production continues as it was last year. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't unless he gets hurt.
The idea that Jackson is somehow overpaid is silly. He's not underpaid either, like he was in 2009 and 2010.
I'm just surprised anybody had a conversation with Jackson that left him with the impression he'd be back. That's the only thing that would make me concerned other players might feel like they could be stabbed in the back.
The gang stuff sounds bad on the surface but he's not really accused of anything particularly awful. The story was probably enough to finally force the Eagles' hand from trying to trade him to just cutting him to be done with it, though. Maybe the house robbery was the last straw, or there's something attached to it that was the last straw.
And I would hypothesize they were worried they could keep him happy (or at least positive) in the locker room without Vick and Avant. He'd be the veteran presence among the WRs now.
I gotta think a lot of teams were dubious of him if he couldn't be had for much this off-season. (I understand not trading for him last year, though, given his production).
Not surprised to see teams talking to him now, though, to see how little they can sign him for.
