  • I don't think it was so much Kelly not being "able" to manage him

in the sense that he isn't capable. I think he saw him as not meshing with the rest of the locker room and just not someone he wanted as part of the team. More importantly, I don't think he values him as a player as much as some of us do. At the end of the day, if Kelly saw him as indispensable, he would have kept him. He didn't, so he let him go because he thought he could be replaced and the team chemistry would be all the better for it. After last year, he gets the benefit of the doubt from me, but I am highly skeptical (and pissed).

The gang stuff is bullsh*t because 1. I don't think it's true - at least not in the sense that they want us to believe it; and 2. because they could have cut him without smearing him.

I'll give Kelly the benefit of the doubt until it blows up in his face, but this was an awfully big gamble with a team that was headed in the right direction. And Desean is the f*cking man.

They got nothing in return for one of their two best players. It's not a gamble, it's a bad move unless there is still more (which I don't believe). This happening now speaks more about how inept this front office has become. They couldnt work with other teams to get minimal value for one of their best players? Don't you think it would make sense to hang on to him through the draft and a team could get desperate? The smearing to try and cover up the fact that they couldn't get it done and needing to justify cutting him is obvious. That report that came from nj.com had nothing in it the Eagles haven't been aware of for years.

After dropping avant and vick I think chip thought he was going to be a total disrupter and harm the development of the young talent. The smear campaign was not warranted though.

Agreed that it's ok and even desirable to want to clean house from the Reid (FF) regime. I'm not liking the smear campaign, though. And this may be the biggest and clumsiest smear campaign ever.

..because someone other than the usual channels released the info...creating a bigger pickle.

Another theory ...DJs agent having received little to no big $$ so far starts the trade rumors, pushing the eagles calendar of plans. The Eagles FO retaliates and says ok he is gone, oh yeah, try to see how much you can get for a poison apple.

Follow the money. They think they can get by with a cheaper player (draft?).

The lockerroom/character issues are bullshit IMO.

I couldn't see how they could take Vick and coopers baggage without something serious on Jackson. But I'm back to money now as the deal here.

              Agreed.

But why the need for the smear campaign?

Assuming they were orchestrating it, it only makes sense to keep the fans from going WTF about dumping a pro bowl popular player for nothing when fits under the cap

BTW - I agree that a smear campaign is a bad idea.

I'd rather take heat as a guy who thinks his system can function without spending so much on a particular (albeit popular) player, and can use the money in areas of more need.

Hell, I'd rather take the heat as a cheap fuck ... than as a cunt.

I think the question is how much baggage did Vick/Cooper bring INTO the locker roomroom vs. Jackson? I don't know but implcations seem to be that Jackson was more of an issue there.

I think the gang aspect is secondary unless Desean seemed to be getting more involved or it was influencing other players.
