  • Why the need for a SMEAR CAMPAIGN?

Either the release of Jackson was the El-Wrongo or El-Righto move for the team. The only way to see that is to watch the results on the field.

A SMEAR CAMPAIGN driven by information dug up by "fixers" and fed to media lackeys isn't going to change any of that. The team is either going to be better or worse next season based upon this move and nobody will know the answer until the season plays out.

I guess maybe it lets other players know they better watch themselves. Thus the muted public comments regarding Jackson by other players.

Nothing with this organization seems to happen without drama. Hollywood!

It's all about "image". Jeffy doesn't want to be perceived as a bad guy. He's just protecting the NFL from the Crips. DJax probably would have knifed somebody this season.

They certainly are pushing the envelope when their attorneys are telling them to make no public comments.

Doesn't appear to be ability to manage a player

From what I've read today. Looks like they just didn't want him on the team. Still no reason for the despicable smear campaign tho

I'm trying to figure out this whole "managing" him thing. They obviously didn't do a good job managing him last season in the sense that he was late to meetings etc. etc. but sometimes players don't change and the coach has to decide whether the player is worth the headache. I still think the biggest factor to Kelly was that he thought Jackson was expendable. He could have managed him if he had to but felt he didn't need to.

Especially this kind of smear. You can let a guy go without totally destroying his reputation. The Eagles have never really understood that it seems. It's disgraceful.

How is everyone so sure this is a smear campaign? I love a good conspiracy, but it is so far-fetched the nj.com article was investigated totally independently of the eagles until they called to give them a heads-up that they were gonna go with it - which is pretty standard practice?

For weeks, everyone (media and fans included) have been griping about not knowing why the Eagles soured on DeSean. Would it not make sense that some reporters would try to make a name for themselves by going and finding some dirt to string together as an explanation?

If the supposed smear campaign was aimed at making eagles look good, it's had the opposite effect. I just don't see smear as a foregone conclusion and would love for someone to give me a better explanation for all the certainty than 'It's the same old Eagles.'

I agree. Smearing seems like the least logical move. If anything the article may have expedited his eventual release with the gang discussion now public.

Yeah, its clear kelly didn't like or want him. I have no problem with that. Part of kellys job, at this point, is turning the roster over. But its obvious that, when tasked with the job of moving jackson, howie roseclown shit the bed. Its a plain and simple fiasco we have watched unfold over the course of the past two months and it has absolutely nothing to do with gangs or the smearing thereof.
