Cutting one of your best players because you don't like his attitude and don't feel like paying him a contract YOU gave him (without getting shit in return). This FO continues to shoots itself in the foot.

Could you name any other team that would pull this crap?

First of all, let's review--when Jackson signed his extension, it was Andy Reid who pushed for it, not Roseman. That was covered in another thread I put on here. Roseman reestablished his power base as GM when Reid was fired.
It was Reid who basically let Jackson get away with a one game suspension during the 2011 season when he took whole games off and admitted after he got his contract that he didn't play as hard as he should have prior to that. That's out there in a public statement he made.
Chip Kelly, when he became Eagles coach last year was implenting his program and Jackson did not want to learn all three WR positions which essentially got him face time with Kelly and had him demoted to the 2nd and 3rd teams in OTAs and briefly in training camp. He also didn't like the switch from Vick to Foles and didn't agree with Kelly about the way the offense was going.
Now fast forward to 2 days after the playoff loss to the Saints and Jackson saying he thought his contract needed to be upgraded and "my agent, Joel Segal, has put together a great plan for the off season." Now, whether that meant he was going to hold out or what, who knows/
Bottom line, Roseman already saw that movie once, didn't want to see a repeat and Kelly, as head coach who didn't draft many of the players Reid did, has no allegiance toward Jackson and hence, didn't want him on the team anymore, where his tardiness, his contract squabbles, his less than 100% out on the field might infect younger players. After all, as a sportswriter said this morning, the younger players look at him as a veteran and think, "Well he isn't doing this, so why should I"?
That's why Jackson was cut. Not only that, but if you read enough stories, you'll find out they tried to trade him LAST YEAR during the draft, and no one would even give them a middle round pick for him.
Lastly, I think it is laughable that some on this board, who thought Jackson couldn't break man to man and press coverage and whined about his frequent no shows in playoff games are now the same people berating the front office for letting him go.

The fact remains, Bobby
That they cut an insanely talented WR and got nothing in return. There were teams interested, you have to get SOMETHING for him. I dont care if it's a seventh round pick in next year's draft, don't just let him walk. The truth is incontrovertible. I was one of the people that was questioning how this helps the Eagles. I guess I am still questioning if the Eagles are a better team after dropping Jackson, but I am starting to understand the move more and more. Jackson was not Kelly's guy, he was a total diva, in tough coverage he tends to disappear like he did in the playoff game until the CB covering him got hurt, the contract and more money distractions every year, and the fact that he is making $10.5 mil this year and they just didn't see the value there. I am going to see how Chip handles this and then make my mind up. The draft is deep and the Eagles may not miss a beat after cutting Jackson, or maybe not.... Time will tell.Canada is like a really nice apartment over a meth lab.

I've met you so I know this isn't Dave Spadaro
but seriously...have you EVER taken a player's position? I admit that I usually am "pro-employee" and have been dead wrong at times. But come on, this move was not in the best interests of the team. It may turn out that he needed to go, but to let go without anything in return is inexcusable.Officially awaiting Douchebagnacht II since

IG, they tried for TWO YEARS to trade him and that's before he got on Kelly's bad side last year, and no one was willing to take him. That should say something at least. If you try for two years and you find no takers I'd say it was done. As for me taking a player's position, I believe they should make as much money as they can--after all, it's a short time they can have on the field--but when you get 15M upfront, and are due to make 10.5M in a year where if you just did what the coach asks of you and then you start bitching about not being paid enough and then hint at a holdout, I'm afraid that's where I draw the line. And by backtracking later and saying he just wanted to score some guaranteed money, don't you think that by playing nice with everyone, there is no question he would have gotten everything this year.
