Maybe because most people in the eastern time zone that work don't watch late night shows - those that watch are largely retirees. I watch Conan on occasion but that's it. Colbert's demographic will surely increase in age

I think in the central time zone everything broadcast is an hour earlier. Like our 11 PM news is on at 10, etc.

West coast is a different story.
