  • This tells me that Chip is not calling the shots, Howie and Lurie are.

Too similar to past drafts when Reid (FF) was coach under Banner and Lurie's control.

One would think that Kelly might have played things a little differently had he been in control.

Why you say that? Kelly seems to make a lot of cMpus visits and break down tons of film.

During the offseason, apparently Kelly's role is to become a glorified scout.

      Bang for Lurie's buck!

For better or worse you gotta think coaches from the college ranks believe they can coach anyone.

They were in a lot more favorable draft position last season because of Reid's (FF's) disaster the year before. I'd wait a while before giving anybody associated with the Eagles drafting any benefit of the doubt.

This is where I am with this pick. It's not who I thought they'd take given what was on the board and I hope that means he's REALLY their best available and not a guy they viewed as a way to fill a need.

Smith was considered to be in the second-tier of pass rushers so it's conceivable he was their best available based on measurables and ceiling...but in the first round I think you're always aiming to add a guy who can challenge for a starting job right away.

I agree with you ... this is the first draft that required some skill and, after shitcanning their deep threat, their follow-up did not impress me.

I tend to agree with this. Kelly said something to the effect of, "I don't care who we DON'T pick, I very much care who we DO pick." They're therefore going to have fewer players on their board, which is going to mean there will be periods in the draft where they don't have anyone they covet at the the appropriate value.

If anything, I put this reach on Howie for not being able to move back a few spots. They would have still been able to get this guy in the late 1st, and got an extra pick.

Truthfully, I think they wanted Clinton-Dix, thought he'd be there, and when he got picked, there wasn't enough time to pull off a move down.

Not sure I agree. We don't really know Kelly yet. At least I don't.

Why donT people believe it when they say it is a conglomerate making the picks. They have a year to set their board, I am sure they talk everything out and 95 percent of the time come to an agreement. Then you just follow the board. Sure they put guys into tiers, then if you have 6 or 7 guys grouped together, the tiebreaker is need.
