I'm pretty sure the defense actually got worse after this draft. I didn't think that was possible.

The words "best player available" keep coming to mind. I thought they were done reaching for players at "positions of need". Guy is a fucking clown.

I think he believes he is going for the best available. It makes me think there is something suspect about how they draw up their draft board. Also, he is too fidgety to know when to accept that the draft fell his way. Its one thing to get put out by green bay and the saints in the first round. Its an entirely different matter when there is still good talent available when you have two picks in the third and you trade out.

He is a middling talent as a GM right now but it seems like its fixable. Problem is he seems too arrogant to make these changes. I am basing this on the incorrigible and overly defensive interview he gave WIP this a.m.

Fidgety is probably a good way to put it. I'm ok with trading back but don't tell me Marcus Smith was their top player on the board at 26. They did exactly what they said they wouldn't, they reached for a position of need instead of going bpa. The saints ate Howie's lunch (this off-season).

was the best pass rusher left on their board, and they wanted to trade back but had no takers...why is this so hard to understand? Give the negative nancy routine a rest, played out...do you ever say anything positive about anything? You are like my 65 year old mother for christ sakes. Bottom line is you don't know crap about these players, so a smart person would just shut up and wait for at least training camp to see what these players can do before they talk mess.

Jonathan Papelbon picked up his 11th save of the year Saturday as the Phillies beat the Mets 5-4.
Papelbon surrendered a two-out walk to Daniel Murphy and Murphy then stole second base, but the Philadelphia closer induced a foul pop-out from David Wright to end the game. Papelbon hasn't allowed a run since April 2 and his season ERA is all the way down to 1.76.

This was the last guy you said sucked, boy did you jump the gun on that just like this...that seems to be your MO internet tough guy. Go find another lame racist jpg to try and make fun of me being a fan of Coop now...can't wait. If you say all these players they drafted suck, then i am sure at least 2 of them will turn into pro bowlers.

You ever thought they want the "best available" for their schemes, both offensively and defensively? For years, guys here had been moaning about Reid going with "a square peg in a round hole". Now you have a coach and GM who are picking players that they believe fit their schemes and you don't like it???

So now Reid was putting square pegs in round holes? Seems like a major change for you? Is it just a routine to defend the front office or are you on the payroll?

It’s very difficult to find pass rushers in the draft.

2.The Eagles desperately need pass rushers. And...

3.If the Eagles didn’t take Marcus Smith at No. 26, they weren’t going to be able to add a pass rusher.

“I do believe totally in the best player available,” Roseman said Friday morning on the 94 WIP Morning Show, his first interview since the Eagles picked Smith.

“But we’ve always talked about tiers, too. And if guys are in the same tier, we always look at the hard-to-find position and then we look at the other positions, how the draft board looks.

“We’ve said from Day 1, this is a really good receiver draft, and we didn’t think this was a great pass rusher draft, and if we have those guys in the same tier, we’re going to take a pass rusher. …

“It’s hard to think that a pass rusher with this production and this athletic ability was going to be there when we were picking again in the second round.”

The Eagles moved from No. 22 to No. 26, gaining a third-round pick from the Browns, and then selected Smith, a 6-foot-3, 250-pound outside linebacker from Louisville.

The pick was surprising, since most draft analysts expected Smith to be drafted somewhere in the second round or even in the third.

Sounds like a reach to me.

Don't have an opinion before the draft. 'Wait and see who's available.'
Don't have an opinion during the draft. 'It's not over, yet.'
Don't have an opinion after the draft. 'Let it play out and see how these players perform.'
Don't have an opinion three years later when they failed. 'ITYS is lame.'

Chip mentioned on Friday they had six players they coveted on Day 1. None of them were there when they picked. Mistake #1. They were unable to find a trade partner to trade down again. Mistake #2. They ended up with a reach. Mistake #3. They want public with this information Mistake #4. This was on Day 1.

I don't understand how they didn't have a plan if all of those guys were off the board? I think the New Orleans trade up sent the Eagles war room in a tail spin and they bought some time and moved back to 26 but couldn't trade back any further and got stuck drafting for need.

How did the Saints move up? They weren't prepared. They didn't have this scenario in mind and they ended up with a reach. I'll accept not being prepared in the later rounds but not the first. No fucking way.
