"[Richburg] is a really good, athletic center. He's one of those guys, one of those bonus guys. Not a lot of centers can pull," general manager Jerry Reese said. "This guy can snap the ball and pull and get out on the perimeter. He was terrific."

The Giants players have said that they expect the new offense to be more like what McAdoo was used to in Green Bay. The Packers offense is heavy on screens, draws and pulling linemen. That includes the center. It also puts more responsibility on his shoulders.

The center will be asked to share much more of the line calls than before, when Kevin Gilbride's offense put much of the responsibility on the quarterback, Eli Manning.

"I just know that the new coordinator likes the center to be very involved with some of the protection scheme things and [Richburg] is really smart," Reese said. "He was outstanding when we interviewed him at the combine so he fits the mold of what we want, besides being a very good football player."

Vice president of player evaluation Marc Ross admitted this all factored into the final decision to select Richburg, who scored an impressive 31 on the Wonderic test. His intellect and athleticism, on top of being a quality football player, made him an ideal fit for McAdoo's offense.

"The center position here for us is one of responsibility in terms of dictating to the rest of the offensive line exactly how the scheme is going to go," coach Tom Coughlin said. "This guy will fit right in in terms of that."

We have Rashad Jennings and David Wilson who can catch the ball out of the backfield.

Andre Williams will be used as a power back in short-yardage, goal-line situations and to close games out in the 4th quarter when we need to pound teams and run out the clock.

Chip Kelly and Howie Roseman's Eagles were one of the NFL's many pleasant surprises last season, and their second draft together was filled with many surprises, as well. Marcus Smith wasn't a household name, but with the pass rushing group being so thin this year, the Eagles pounced. In later rounds, they took guys they obviously liked -- Josh Huff, a Kelly recruit out of Oregon, Jaylen Watkins, from Roseman's University of Florida, and Taylor Hart, a DT who was a stud for Kelly in Eugene. My favorite Eagles pick was Jordan Matthews, the SEC record-holding WR out of Vanderbilt. Like Keenan Allen a season ago, Matthews slipped to the second round because he isn't a workout warrior. But he is reliable, did it at the highest level in college, and will be a pleasant addition to a locker room. He wants to work. He'll get that chance.

The Giants had a lot of areas of need and hit most of them. Odell Beckham, Jr. was the fastest rising WR on everyone's board and when he slipped to 12, the Giants weren't going in any other direction. That meant passing on Zack Martin, a guy that'd be able to help on their offensive line at tackle or guard. Weston Richburg and Jay Bromley are classic Tom Coughlin types. Tough, gritty, smart offensive and defensive linemen. But why wait until the fifth round to draft a safety? There were just a few special ones and the Giants, who are looking at free agent seasons for Demps and Rolle, didn't get one in Rounds 1-4. I'm not as high on Andre Williams, the ultra-productive runner out of BC, as others.
