    Gimme a break

Odds on favorite running against a bunch of stiffs.

Personally, I liked him in the Derby and loved him today. It didn't take too much smarts to pick him in either.

And...............I thought you were the big "breeding" guy. So how do you explain this?

I'd love to see a triple crown winner. That said, I believe if Wicked Strong runs in the Belmont he wins.

Gee, Ob -- He's The One With The Breeding

However, considering how long it's been since Affirmed, I'd rather see Wicked Strong and the rest of the field tied for second with each of them staring at Chrome's tail.

and they finished far back in the pack. Worst Preakness field in a long, long time.

Yeah, he had an impossible post in the Derby. Could definitely see that. I've been impressed with Ride on Curlin. Got a really bad trip in the Derby and a solid showing today.

Seems as if thoroughbred racing is facing an uphill image problem to ever be relevant again. Is California Chrome a horse that can change that? Doesn't seem to be a whole lot of glamour here.

Perhaps the sport should pass into the annals of history. It has a pretty dark underbelly. That should be expected when sports and gambling combine to create an event.

The entire industry is from a different era. Is the Atlantic City Race Track still operating there on the Black Horse Pike in Mays Landing?

Add horse racing to the LOOOONG list of sports you know nothing about. It's borderline embarrassing watching you flail your way through sports convos.

I wonder how the other jockeys are going to treat him in the Belmont. I subscribe to the theory Smarty Jones lost the Triple Crown because a few jockeys ran a race intended to make Smarty lose, rather than themselves win.

Today, I thought Ride On Curlin was gonna get him about halfway down the stretch, but just didn't have the juice. Felt like maybe he'd been too far off the pace.

Do you know what the comments about "Churchill Downs needing to get their act together" from the owner of the winning horse was in reference to?

                        Just A Guess

I used to work for a guy whose father was from Maryland and had a thoroughbred stable -- he was based at Pimlico. My friend explained the fans and Pimlico officials make the horses and their owners the stars -- at the Kentucky Derby the race and the track are the stars. It's more like the owners and the people associated with the horses are expected to say, "Thank you for LETTING us be here."

In Maryland the people and officials say to the owners and their entourage, "Thank YOU for being here." It's a much homier atmosphere than in Kentucky -- that would be my guess.

The part owner of Chrome, Perry Martin, has a handicap mother that didn't receive proper consideration. In previous years, Ron Turcotte (jockey of Secretariat) is a paraplegic and claims they didn't have handicap parking and other accommodations for the handicapped as well.
