Goodell thinks that since the word has been used so often, it should be acceptable.

Did it originally mean something like ignorant douchebag sitting in a cornfield

Is it or is it not used as a racial epithet?

Haha. I believe it originally meant "ignorant douchebag sitting in a maizefield."

The Cherokee in me thinks they should change it. The non-politically correct part in me doesn't care one way or the other. The Eagle fan in me hopes they keep it so we can continue to deride them as racists.

I believe the origin of the word is probably benign, but it has changed since then. There is no reason to keep the name "Redskins" when it is now almost universally considered a slur.

I don't care how they try and spin it; it's indefensible.

How long before you post your "I'm not a racist" reply?
500 internet fights, that's the number I figured when I first joined igglephans. 500 internet fights and you could consider yourself a legitimate internet-tough guy. You need them for experience, to develop leather skin. So I got started. Of course along the way you stop thinking about being tough and all that. It stops being the point. You get past the silliness of it all. But then...after...you realize that's what you are.

So, related, The Grandson just graduated HS in Havre, Mt and they had their senior party down at the local ski area, on the Res. south of town, since the County Sheriff can't go there, and the Indians don't care about white kids in an isolated area of the Res.
