Soccer has come a long way but the ratings compared to SNF make sense. The USA team represents the USA. Two teams on SNF represent 1/16 of the NFL fan base.

In addition, Nielsen and the other ratings measurement groups, all are unable to measure those who streamed it. I, and plenty of others, watched it live on my PC via the ESPN link - not counted in the ratings.

Your point is well taken. If these games were on broadcast TV for free, I wonder what the numbers would be. Maybe would rival NFL playoffs.

Lets not get out of hand here. It's the World Cup. It comes around every 4 years. Americans will watch WC soccer for 3 weeks every 4 years. Put soccer on every week in teh US and the National Spelling Bee will have better ratings.

I wish it was more prevalent here, I could really get into it. The MLS is meh and the big league games on ESPN are at weird times and nobody cares.

Premier League is on NBCSN every weekend during the season.

And there was a game on regular NBC on Sat. afternoon.

I think its interesting to see what the NFL network puts on opposite US soccer

They had a rerun of the Dallas-49ers epic NFC CG from 1981, clearly going for the geezer demographic while ceding the youngsters to the soccer broadcast

It gets crazy ratings for the same reason Olympic Hockey gets ratings, Americans LOVE cheering for their country.
