I'll say it again. I wanted Costa Rica to advance but this is a sucky way to decide who advances.

Especially the way Chile played against Brazil. They had no interest in playing in extra time and wanted to take their chances in the shootout.

It's better than to give a weak penalty in the box to a player who had 4 defenders around and and virtually no chance to score.

Was he tripped in the penalty area and should it have been a penalty kick, absolutely. Did Robben sell it a bit as well, 100%. It still does not take away from the fact that it was a foul in the penalty area and that a penalty kick should have been awarded. The Mexican player pulled a bonehead move there for sure.

While I agree that the shootouts can sometimes be a shitty way to end a fantastic game there's only so much a player can run up and down the field without giving out. 120 minutes is a long ass time.

One thing I like about it is that it brings out who has ice in their veins (and/or who has done their research on the guy across from them).

the trip in the penalty area at around the 47 minute mark against Robben that was even more blatant than the one that was called. Personally, I think the ref gave the Mexicans the benefit of the doubt on the first two and then called the third one. steeeRIKE THREE!

I don't mind the PK endings. I don't want all games to end that way but they can be entertaining.

There's separate drama to them - you can see the best player in the world totally blow and it and other guys make incredible shots or saves.

Got nothing better to do than sit, get healthy, call my investor, and watch soccer.
