  • Phillies attendance

CBP appears as a morgue when you watch these games on TV but amazingly, they are 8th in National League in average home attendance (30,438) ... 13th in the major leagues. Not great especially compared to what we're used to but not as bad as I would have guessed.

My guess is that reflects sold tickets, not actual gate.

I bet lots of season tix plan holders don't go and are trying to sell and can't get buyers.
Obscenity is the last refuge of an inarticulate motherfucker.

      I believe you are correct

...and all those visible blue seats represents all that unsold beer and hotdogs...something's got to give with this payroll. They are also limited in what they can do with most of the big contracts.

What the Phillies really need is a bail-out

I think the recent TV deal will pay those contracts easily.

i guess i misunderstood because you mentioned the empty seats and the high payroll. and i guess i responded because i think a lot of people mistakenly think that high salaries drive high ticket prices, when it's almost the other way around with ticket prices being demand driven.

hopefully they can move some contracts. maybe they'd have to pay some of papelbon's salary but he's having a great season. utley is having a good season and he's relatively healthy...should have traded him last year but they could still probably get something. definitely should have traded cliff last year when his value was through the roof. and they could get a haul for hamels but with the sentimentality and the chance that this team could be good again when cole is 33 i can't see RAJ moving him. i think byrd could get them something decent too...as far as i know he's only owed 8 million next year and the 3rd year is a club option.
