I was caught up in the Halladay hype and excited when Lee was brought back. Hell, I was all about Oswalt and the "Four Aces" shit for awhile too but, in retrospect, it was all a mess. I didn't look into the contractual specifics and didn't realize how untradable he made these guys. He rolled the dice and lost...now we're dealing w/ the fallout...

Since 2011 (the year they won 102 games) the attendance per game dropped from 45,441 to 30,390 this season. 15,051 less fans this year than when they were winning.

he's an idiot...but the reports were also that the offers for byrd were "embarrassing"...so if teams weren't ponying up even a little bit...i don't blame him for not trading them.

now it's the waiver clearing deals and deals can still be made through the end of august i believe.

And I regret not saving the gas money to get up there. I remember the sellout streak, seems like forever ago. At least you can get a ticket now, the product is horrible though, they don't score runs! When I was up there a month or so ago people were still showing up, leaving early but showing up at least. I am talking a complete boycott like between 5-10,000, then heads will roll.

It wasn't a mess, but all be did was cut checks. And that's all he's ever done. He's never made a tough decision.

Cole Hamels could have brought in a haul of young talent, but RAJ had no leverage. Teams called his bluff on the king's ransom that he was asking for because they knew the pressure was on Rube to cave and trade Hamels for too little, while paying too much of the contract. Forget the contracts that made Byrd, Lee, Papelbon, and Burnett immovable. RAJ could have at least gotten elite prospects for the Phillies dismal farm system.

This team won't be good again until Hamels is 33 or 34. Close to Lee's age. Who is the same age that Doc was when his body broke down. Who was the same age that RoyO was when his body broke down. RAJ needs to learn something from this. Not trading Lee last year was a giant mistake.

Knowing the sort of dreck RAJ has consistently gotten in trades, one can only hope that a new GM will be in place after this season and perhaps the new GM may have a clue when it comes to talent evaluation.

At this point, there's no reason to pitch him again this season even if he could.

That leaves little to no chance anyone will want Cliff in the offseason. They'll wanna wait and see how he bounces back next season. If he pitches well, maybe his stock goes up again, if he doesn't, we're stuck with him until he totally breaks down.
