  • Rise In Penalties

Penalties on the whole are up 43.7% over this time last year.

Illegal contact and defensive holding penalties are up...wait for it...478% over last year.

    478 fuckin percent.

Way to ruin the product Goodell.

Pretty soon the official's are going to be claiming they are overworked, I can see the rise in insurance claims already on tennis elbow's, and torn rotator cuffs, probably have to throw a couple of wrist surgeries in there also!

Things will settle out. I suspect that players will back off and the refs will ease off once the regular season starts. Even if the NFL wants more points, they're not going to let people start changing the channel because of flags.

While I don't doubt that's how it ultimately plays out, doesn't Goodell have that smug "I'll feed these morons whatever product I want and they'll just shut up and take it" feel about him. That's the only thing that worries me.

Ironically a few are blaming Richard Sherman for this.

In reality, I think it's more Manning as PackWest discussed earlier.

I think it was the 2003 or 3004 playoffs when Manning's receivers were getting mugged by the Patriots that brought about the first wave of PI/Defensive Holding emphasis.

I hate Goodell as much as anyone, but this one is the competition committee.

They all probably thought their receivers were getting mugged last year and nothing was happening. This rule is going to poison this season, but should be corrected for next year.
