Why is it always the Eagles who use high draft picks on players like Graham, Nate Allen, Kendricks and now Marcus Smith, and then we have to hear about how these guys need to learn how to play football when the game moves so fast in the NFL? Lots of first and second round draft picks pick up the NFL game right away.

Kendricks has great ability, but has been too up-and-down. It's still too early to tell.

Also, I wonder if Reid didn't know how to draft linebackers, or just didn't know how to cultivate them. The last few years of the Reid era, the positional coaching was pretty shitty.

Reid's early position coaches were an all-star line-up. Ron Rivera coached Trotter before leaving to be the DC in Chicago in 2004. Then Steve Spagnuola took over at LB, who everyone once thought was a genius but has since been pretty much exposed. Can't think of a single LB worth a damn after Rivera left.

The LBs coach during Reid's last year? Mike Caldwell. The results speak for themselves.

Kendricks is above average with potential to get better. He very well may be the fastest MLB in the NFL, and that's one thing you can't teach. Still young. If everyone on D were as good as Kendricks, the defense would be significantly better. Not great, but better.

Actually, advanced statistics tell us Kendricks was very ordinary last season. He had 23 missed tackled and was among the least effective pass defending linebackers in the NFL.
