First, I would like to remove any doubts that I may not be an Eagles fan. I have been a fan since 1989.
I didnt get to watch the first 3 games of the season, but due to the 3-0 record, and due to a lot of hype on the sports radio programs, I was under the impression that the Eagles were playing very well.
Then I watched the entirety of the 4th game against the 49-ers(used to call them the 40-8ers, after that 40-8 drubbing in 1994 by the Eagles!). As I watched that game, what I saw was the single worst performance in the 25 years I have been a fan. Their special teams looked great, and a few defensive players did well, but the offense looked awful. I was surprised that several of these players are even in the NFL after that game. I dont have quite the confidence in Nick Foles that I did before. He played like he didnt care about winning the game IMO. It looked like they quit before the first kickoff!
Now, there are hundreds of examples where one team will dominate the other team so much that it makes it look as if the other team isnt even trying, but I dont think thats exactly what happened in week 4. There was some of that towards the end, but it was the Eagles offense who defeated the Eagles throughout most of that game. Not to mention the problems with the Eagles 30th ranked pass defense coming into that game.
I think the last set of downs at the very end really put it in perspective. They had 1.5 minutes to score, and all they could do was go backwards! That was followed by an ugly interception to end the game.
They are lucky to be 4-1 now, and maybe they can become more consistent, but if not, then the answer to this thread's title will become obvious...... What do you think? Do they have the personnel to turn it around?
