  • Good News for Maclin Mavens

The updated Football Outsider rankings have him up to 12th in DYAR and 20th in DVOA. Not DJAX level (6th and 4th) but within the range of #1 receivers.

Interestingly, he has yet to draw a penalty call on the defense. Possibly due to the lack of physicality in his game.

I still think his numbers are a function of his massive amount of targets. Useful receiver but don't break the bank for him.

Yeah, he doesn't have the physicality to his game like the very physical receivers like DeSean have.

I think a major reason Maclin hasn't drawn any penalties is because he's flat out beating his CBs all the time. He is running wide open. The corners don't have a chance to get called for PI and they can't even hold the guy when beat because they're getting beat pretty badly.

I was always a huge DeSean supporter and to this day hate the fact that they cut him, but Maclin is playing at an elite level.

This is just a case of a guy not wanting to admit he was wrong. Be a man, admit you were wrong and move on.

Is Maclin as good as Julio, AJ, Calvin, Jordy, Dez or A Brown? No, but he is a lower tier #1WR and you making up this ridiculous arguments is just crazy at this point.

We might HAVE to break the bank a bit. Do you think Matthews or Cooper can match his game-breaking ability? Take Maclin out of this offense, and I think it become much less explosive.

If Jackson put up 82/1332/9 with superior QB play in 2013 (102.7) and is considered a #1 receiver why wouldn't Maclin be considered a #1 receiver when he is on pace to put up 90/1580/16 with mediocre QB play (82)?

Overpaying Cooper is a problem but overpaying Maclin doesn't solve it.

So many good receivers in the draft lately. And look at what Chip is getting out of Sproles. Plenty of options if Maclin wants a mint.

Sorry, he doesn't get credit for 90 catches until he makes them.

Jackson had 124 targets last season. Maclin is on track for 168. Hey ... maybe that's what happened to Foles QB rating!

Some other wr's on pace for 150+ targets:

                    Antonio Brown
                    Demaryius Thomas
                    Julio Jones
                    Golden Tate
                    Jordy Nelson
                    Dez Bryant
                    TY Hilton
                    Vincent Jackson

                    and many more.

Maybe the real concern should be that DJax is so one dimensional, that he is targeted far less than all other #1's in the NFL.

JMac is targeted about 25% of the Eagles total targets. That puts him around 12th in the NFL. DJax is just under 20% of is team's targets.

Never heard somebody argue that being targeted more is a negative - until you. An interesting take.

His low numbers in the FO analysis are also a function of a large number of targets that were not catchable, that can't be ignored.

I don't think anyone is saying they should "break the bank" for him, but he deserves to be paid an amount in line with his production. Even considering the system he plays in helps his numbers, if he continues to produce like he is, he should be among the highest paid 10-15 WR's in the league.

$23 million under the cap to start the season. Enough of this "Don't break the bank" crap.

You've really never heard that a QB should spread the ball around? That's Football 101.
