If it's a fumble but the players don't immediately treat it like a fumble and go after it, or they momentarily stop, then it's not a fumble? That's a ridiculous rule.

I think they call it a "clear recovery". Basically like a lateral that no one knows whether it's a pass or not and the just let it go.
