I think if Davis leaves, Azzinaro steps up and D doesn't change much at all. I get the impression that Davis is more of a consensus builder that gets a lot of input from a set of extremely experienced defensive assistants, including some former head coaches.

That being said, I hope he sticks around. This defense is trending upward, even with the significant positions in need of upgrade. The longer the current staff stays together, the better.

The Kelly culture. Look at the improvement on special teams too. Chip clearly knows how to put a team together. I don't buy that Billy Davis is suddenly special.

If the birds get to the Super Bowl, I think you are right. However, if they don't, maybe he feels next year the team might have a better chance for a deep run.

He'd be more attractive to other teams if he helped lead a team deep in to the playoffs.
