  • The college football selection committee shouldn't put out rankings

until the end when they make the actual selections. That would prevent another situation like this. Just handle it like basketball. Let everyone speculate and then make your selections at the end. Nobody would have an argument (not a particularly strong one, anyway) if they selected the four teams they did as a one off selection. I can't imagine that in the history of college football rankings a team ranked third in the country has won by 50 points and dropped to sixth. It's unprecedented and it makes the committee's process look stupid.

I agree, but we both know why they do it...to show it on ESPN.

There's no reason they should release the rankings until the end, and there's certainly no reason they should release them on national TV and then debate it for an hour.

As with most things in sports today, it's all about the advertising $$$

        Intersting Wash Post column today

You want to know who should be in.......just ask the pro in Vegas. They sure know a hell of a lot more than these dickheads locked in their little room looking for the matchups that make the most $$$$$$.

Oh, and sure as shit OSU is out.

Totally agree with him. I would put OSU, Baylor and TCU ahead of FSU - but I think an undefeated defending champion has the right at a shot at a repeat so they get in. Baylor would have been my 4th.

OSU lost to a really bad team early and played in a relatively weak conference. They might be one of the four best teams but if you are going to base it on a sliding, season long rankings system, I don't think they can get in over previously higher ranked teams that do nothing but keep winning in a tougher conference.
