  • The bottom line is this

That outrageous bullshit last night was either incompetence or corruption. And it's been going on all year.

The NFL has ignored this problem. They cresate rules that promote nickel and dime uneven calls at the discretion of part time officials and ignore blatant bad calls or non calls with the same jerkoffs calling the games and no consequences to them.

Nobody will watch a sport they cannot trust. Whether fans think it's crooked or think it's officiated by boobs, the NFL will die if it continues.

These cockroach fans think it's all about their team and they are missing the big picture. When you think it's a sham, you don't watch any of the games. Who cares? I'd rather read it in the paper tomorrow.

      Well, it wasn't incompetence

I really, really want to see a you tube along these lines put out there soon. Only problem is the media, so far, isn't about to jump on the "fixed" bandwagon. They will be providing the sports public a clear disservice if they do not.

          Well said, slag.

This league is going down a slippery slope and it begins at the top.

Lions are now 3-10 with Morelli as the ref. Cowboys are now 9-5.

Is Morelli fixing game for Dallas? Probably not, but it's a lot more fun to tell Cowboys trolls that he is.

These refs have the wireless mic system to talk to each other (as we saw with Ed Hercules when he used the wrong mic). I would love to have heard what these refs were saying to each other during this whole Dallas fiasco.

Would anyone really be all that surprised to hear "This is a big call. If this goes against Dallas, it essentially ends the game. Are we SURE we want to call this here?"

The media will never do it without a slam dunk smoking gun. They're all over it as a bad call but it's all "they still had a chance to stop them and to score and it didn't cause the bad punt blah blah blah".

They have too much invested in it and are afraid of the freeze out they'd get from the league IMO

Edited to add: Not to mention the libel and slander issue.

Regardless, the perception is the key for fans and THAT is my point.

                I've thought about it

and I truly can't recall ever seeing anything like that, ever. My wife's a casual NFL fan and even she was flipping out.

My wife's a pretty big football fan and she was screaming right along with me last night. She was talking about it again this morning. Like us, she still can't believe it.

I'm praying the Packers are primed and ready to destroy those overrated a-holes. Leave no f'n doubt.

                    Neither have I.

I've been complaining about the game getting unwatchable all year.

I actually turned off the Eagles/Niners game and I've never done that before in over 4 decades of watching football.

The key is keeping the pressure on the league so they address the issue.

It's unfortunate the point spread was over 4 because if gamblers stop betting because of the officiating, that will really get their fucking attention.

...it's my biggest complaint, the inconsistency and lack of accountability. It's either incompetence or "fixed", maybe a combo of both.

The fact we are even having these conversations about the integrity of the game says enough.

Here's a former ref on ESPN ripping the crew from last night.

The closest thing I can remember to last night's abomination was when the refs overturned Polimalu's interception of Manning in the playoff game those years ago. Even there you could argue the refs got lost in the interpretation of the rule. Yesterday there was no excuse. Rank incompetence or something more sinister.

They want ratings, nothing like a match up with a couple of NFL darling teams peppered with sprinkling of scandal to get the numbers going through the roof.

                            Wrestlemania NFL style!!

This really was above and beyond, though. It's not just Eagles fan on a message board crying bloody murder -- national sports writers are blown away and want an explanation. This was a perfect shitstorm for the NFL -- the right call was made, the replay supported it, Troy and Joe even went to their little on-staff rules expert who immediately agreed the call was right, and THEN the flag was picked up. I mean holy shit. Even when just considering the PR ramifications of this, that's a disaster, with potential long-term ramifications for their business. As many here have noted, the officiating has been nothing short of awful this year, and yesterday's fiasco -- in the postseason, no less -- was the last straw for a lot of people. For their own sake, the NFL had better find a way to make sure this nonsense stops.
