  • Could Howie sabotage the salary cap?

F Chip in the A and leave?

He could, but he'd be cutting his own throat. Several writers said today that there probably wouldn't be an owner that would hire him as a GM right now without a solid background in player scouting and evaluation. Plus, what other organisation is going to pay him 1.7M a year just to manage the salary cap?

I agree. Whatever you think of Howie, he's undeniably smart. He's not going to do anything to help anyone to smear his reputation, especially given the hit he just took.

Based on that salary, I think Lurie trusts Howie, and is paying that money as a 'retainer' in case Chip proves unable to deliver or leaves. If either thing happens, I think Howie gets all the power right back. If Howie tanks the salary cap, he screws that all up for himself.

I thought the same thing right after I posted.

I agree ... "Here Howie, take these fat stacks and keep me in the loop on shit."

And I wouldn't be surprised if Lurie went on to say: "Coaches come and go, you're my homie, let's see what happens."

Or, they actually got in a room and agreed to a way for all of them to work together for the good of me and all the other fans who they love with boundless affection!!!
Obscenity is the last refuge of an inarticulate motherfucker.

Andrew Brandt has consulted with the Eagles/Lurie and here's his take on the recent changes

January brings another round of head coaching shake-ups. A look at how their contracts typically work (players wish they had this kind of security), the unusual case of Doug Marrone, and Chip Kelly’s rise to power in Philly
