The responsibility of the NT in the 3-4 is to eat up blockers. They're wide bodies who force multiple OL to block them, allowing the LBs to stay clean.

Vince Wilfork has played 11 seasons and has 16 career sacks. Sacks aren't what 3-4 NTs do.

Edit to add: Even better example is Casey Hampton. For 12 seasons he anchored that vaunted Stillers D. 12 seasons, 9 sacks.

Ok but the Eagles don't play a standard 3-4 -- mostly it is a predator 3-4 ---which the 3 in the 3-4 consist of a nose tackle - one 3-4 defensive end and one DE that acts like a DT == to help the nose tackle out -- (thus the need) --- The outside LB on the same side as the DT comes down to act as a defensive end. The Eagles roll their line in and out - this allows them to blitz from either side -- if nose tackle can occupy the center and left guard and keep the ends from being doubled --- How many times do you find Cox lining up on the center -- to much.

Games are won and lost in the trenches --- My thinking Logan and Allen are working but the amount of snaps the d gets its a place that needs improvement with a quality pick.

In the Predator, the 3 in the 3-4 consists of the nose tackle, one standard 3-4 defensive end, and one DE who actually plays as a DT, to help the nose tackle. When that happens, the outside linebacker on the same side comes down to act as a defensive end. This allows the Eagles to bring blitzes from either side. Let the nose tackle handle the center and left guard to try and keep the ends from being doubled. And then, if the outside linebacker comes down, any missed block by the offensive line could wreck the whole play. It emphasizes variety.
