It's obvious Foles isn't ideal in this system. Even if he was somewhat elusive, anything but he's not. If chip wants Mm, he should go get him. It's his ball of clay and his sword to fall on if it doesn't work out.

Gotta rate this higher than a rumor. Eckel is a hack but he has some inside source and a small local reputation left. Don't think he'd go totally rogue.

I have no doubt Kelly would love to have Mariota. Not sure I agree. He was dead wrong on Barkley. Tough to see how it gets it done in any case.

Foles should be back. The price is right. Unless they trade him.

Wasn't Tom Brady a fourth rounder?

        I don't trust Chip's judgement on Pac 10 players.

The Barkley comparison isn't very useful in my opinion. He was a player previously considered a 1st round pick that was avaliable in the 4th. There were very few dissenters on taking a flyer on him given where he was avaliable. It was still considered value even after his stock dropped.

Regardless, the Eagles having interest in another QB shouldn't be considered disrespect towards Foles. Foles hasn't proven that he's the franchise QB. He regressed and got hurt. Even if slag and others fervently think he needs to be given more time it doesn't mean the Eagles necessarily have to bank on him especially if internally they think they can do better.

I like Foles but he has shortcomings that limit his effectiveness in the offense Kelly seems to want to run. 27 TDs and 2 picks hid them well, but as the NFL got to know Foles and Kelly's offense I think they became more apparent. Even then, Kelly was smart enough to make Foles relatively effective. But is relatively effective what the Eagles want/need at QB?

I do agree that the price for him is right. He's still cheap and in a year where Kelly's hand-picked ideal player to run his offense wasn't in the draft I'd say let it ride for 2015.

I love how you (and those in the same camp) ignore he was behind a makeshift line and in his first full year.

As if he was supposed to be a "franchise QB" overnight.

At least you recognize that my position is that he deserves more time and not that I have made a final decision on his prowess.

EDITED TO ADD: And it's pretty laughable that 27 TDS to 2 fucking INT's are somehow something that hid shortcomings instead of proof he deserves more time.

I know there are multiple reasons for his regression but my point is that in year one there wasn't a book on Foles or Kelly. I think that contributed to their success. In year two most people expected a regression but not like that. One of Foles' shortcomings is that without a good (best in the NFL?) line, he's physically limited in the offense because he can't be a real read option threat. The great year Shady had helped alleviate that as well in 2013. As for that 27-2 performance anyone who watched knows that the 2 part of it was significantly affected by luck and dropped picks.

Like I said, in most years I'd say just stick with Foles one more time and see how it goes. But most years don't have Mariota in the draft so I think they should seriously consider going to get him.

whats so great about Mariotta? The fact is that there is more evidence that Foles is a legit NFL starter than Mariotta is right now

The fact of the matter is that everyone knows Mariotta will thrive in Kelly's offense. Ultimately no one can say he will be better than Foles until that happens but in this offense he has a phenomenally higher ceiling.

Chip's smart enough to tailor the offense to Nick's strengths but imagine it fully realized with one of the main QBs it was built for.

This is the prototypical QB to run this offense that we're discussing to replace Foles.

And before Danny Woeful comparisons are made, this offense has already worked with the square peg in the round hole. Now the right peg may be attainable. It would be negligent for them to not at least investigate the possibility of getting Mariota. And it's far from disrespecting Foles.

On paper Mariota is the QB needed to run this offense

But it will take a lot of picks to move up. I don't know if he is worth the risk and I'm a big fan of Mariota. I would like to say just spend the pics on defense, but hell, they could be B, C, and Js too.

Here is what Atlanta spent to move up to get Julio:

"The Falcons really coveted a receiver in the first round because they were eager to move up from the 27th spot. It was a blockbuster deal. In exchange for getting the sixth pick, Atlanta gave the Browns five -- five! -- draft picks: their 1st- (27th overall), second- (59th) and fourth-round (124th) picks this year and their first- and fourth-round picks in 2012."
500 internet fights, that's the number I figured when I first joined igglephans. 500 internet fights and you could consider yourself a legitimate internet-tough guy. You need them for experience, to develop leather skin. So I got started. Of course along the way you stop thinking about being tough and all that. It stops being the point. You get past the silliness of it all. But then...after...you realize that's what you are.

I think it will take a poor combine performance on his part and other QBs shining so that he drops some for the Eagles to be able to afford it.

Maybe he can tank the combine and pull an Elway/Eli

I've never seen such a collection of WIP horseshit in my life. As if the Seahawks are in the Super Bowl because their qb with his 4 INTs won the game. Put the Eagles offense with Foles in Seattle and tell me they'd not be there.

Seattle is one backup tightend brainfart from being second guessed by WIP equivalent fans in Seattle on whether their qb is a problem.

So good idea. Let's go for a guy who runs better instead of defense.
