  • Wilson saw the rookie CB in coverage and

liked his chances. Wilson can't be a hero there trying to notch a passing TD nor should he be a QB robot. Like OB said, he gets to share some of the blame.

He gets the lion share of the blame, if its a one receiver option then throw the ball out of the end zone, don't force it. Then you can give it to lynch next play. Very dumb by Wilson.

Yep, a real lack of situational awareness

....have to believe he did not have an option. CANNOT believe given the success Lynch was having and how tired some of the Patisies were looking, they didn't try some sort of run.

At the very least play action.

Why give the ball to Lynch on the next play?

Running it on 2d is the consensus call, but it does not change the fact that it was a pass that should have been lower and more to the back hip.

Saying that, the DB made a hell of a play jumping that route.

I heard on ESPN this morning that they ran that play in practice and he was beaten for a TD ... so he jumped it sooner this time.

Agreed they should have run it, but since it was a pass its wilsons fault.

Sure it was a bad pass and a great play by the DB. But not giving it to Lynch was pure Andy Reid. Reminded me of the Championship game against Carolina when Duce and Buck were ripping off yards on the ground and Andy has Detmer throw from the ten.

And why was Belichick letting the clock run?

I think he was trying to force Carroll's hand. I thought the same thing--I would have called the time out.

Instead, Carroll/Bevell thinks he will run out of time and throws the ball. Alternatively, I guess Belicheat calls a TO and lets Lynch in with 50 seconds left. That isn't such a bad decision either because they would only need an FG to tie it.

It was a quick slant. The pass wasn't perfect, but I can't see how Wilson running the play that was called is a bad thing. If New England called the same play, Brady would have run the play too.

The point of a quick slant is to take a very short drop and get the ball out immediately. If he would have scrambled for a few seconds and then tried to force something instead of throwing it away, then he would deserve the majority of the blame. In my eyes, the coaches calling a pass in the middle of the field where a multitude of things can (and did) go wrong was worse.

Exactly. What's Wilson gonna say ... he changed the call because he didn't like it? There was no match-up reason to audible.

This is what the beginning of the play looked like. Looks like it's headed for a TD. No surprise Wilson threw it.
