I like Roseman's structure and long term approach as a former GM, but I can't help but wonder if his presence undermines Chip's current authority.
Howie built a lot of relationships with other personnel throughout the league. With so many candidates declining to interview with Chip, I couldn't help but wonder if those outside candidates were taking sides with Howie by merely declining to interview. In a sense, they we hedging that Howie is the guy with more staying power, or they were unsure so they steered clear.
I would hate to think that Howie would directly or indirectly sabatoge the process by suggesting to outsiders that Maynowitz (sp ?) was the clear inside favorite. I have no reason to think that Roseman isn't a stand up guy, but these thinks happen. Knowing how much he loves the personnel side of the business, his mere presence may lend to suspicion and consternation amongst the ranks. That's not good.
Maybe they can all wear their big boy pants and get along. Maybe Roseman bides his time and plays it straight, which is the smartest thing to do in his situation.
I just think Lurie needs to ensure that everyone is 100% behind Chip or take action.
I'm all for a "dictatorship" approach to personnel and I'm hoping that Kelly isn't the bumbling over anxious, inexperienced personnel guy that ummmm Howie portrayed him to be with loving antidotes over the past two years.
