I'm Still Trying To Figure Out The Rationale

Trading Shady would make sense if the player you're getting in return actually did something last season besides rehab a freakin' torn ACL. Yeah, he was smashing as a rooke but it wouldn't be the first time a player was never the same after a major knee injury.

As for McCoy's declining numbers in the final few games, I can say with complete confidence that he was not the only reason why the team went from an almost certain trip to the playoffs to a trip to the ticket window so they could watch from the stands.

Twist my arm and force me to evaluate it at this point and I have to give them a solid, "They did WHAT??".

      The rationale:

      1. He was due a shitload of money.
      2. He was publicly refusing to restructure his contract.
      3. He never quite fit in the Kelly system (he did okay, but there was apparently some tension).
      4. This was probably going to be his last year in Philly, and there is speculation that he was already cut bait because of reasons 1-3.
      5. They got some potential value in a trade that they wouldn't have gotten if they had waited. If the injury bug doesn't haunt the player they got in return, he would strongly improve the defense, which is sorely needed. (You would have a hard time finding an argument that the lackluster defense was not the biggest contributor in the failures this year.)

Freeing up of cap money to go after free agents, and in turn, leaving more draft picks to use for longer-term prospects (or to package for a franchise QB) was definitely a gamble. A bold move. But hey...was it really THAT big of a surprise?

Let's see...so far we have an all pro WR & RB who didn't fit into the system and from what I read here, only one QB who has ever played the game of football that DOES fit in to the system and there is no price too high to get him..

Sounds like a winning plan to me. And, Riley Cooper should give seminars on what it takes to be one of Chip's boys.
