If anything the argument (incorrect in my opinion) is: if Kelly values culture, why would he value what Cooper brings to the culture of the locker room vs. what Jackson / McCoy / Maclin?

I can see why Smith and others raise the question though, even if I disagree and in the case of Smith think he's stirring the pot. The Eagles have the whitest team in the NFL and got rid of their two biggest stars, each of whom are black, with the word "culture" swirling around as the reason.

Because of Cooper's racist outburst, I think it's easy to muddle or interchange "culture" from a personal standpoint (drunken, racist asshole or wannabe gansta rapper) with football culture i.e. overall effort, interest in team goals over individual goals, buying into the practice/conditioning methods, etc. The latter culture if probably what Kelly cares about.

Honestly though, while culture is important to Kelly, the decisions regarding Jackson, Cooper, McCoy and Maclin likely have more to do with value, production, replaceability, and money more than anything else.

Understand what you are saying Terp, and agree to a point, but at the same time, I think Coop IS that work hard, do anything asked of him, don't worry about individual accolades, "buy in" team player.

I think that does describe Cooper, and I do think those are the things that are inherent in Chip's "Culture".

Might be all wet, but that is what I get out of it.

      oh good lord

You've really gone off the deep end. Seriously. Anyone that is attempting to argue a single, specific definition of racism has lost all rational perspective

Shit ... Screamin' should have been fired the day after he ridiculed a head coach (forget who) for not kicking a field goal on third down because (by Screamin's rules) if the kicker missed, they could have gone for it again on fourth.

Subjugate is your verb. Are we allowed to look that one up in the dictionary? What is its sociological meaning?

I've heard the exact same conversation at my barbershop here in Cleveland, so I know it's being said in Philly. It's an understandable argument. KKKooper didn't get his new deal until AFTER the slur, then when you add the fact that they did nothing to dispel the rumors about them cutting Jackson because of gang ties, choosing instead to just stay quiet and let them linger, you can see why some of the brothas would think that way

Take the last sentence of what EIO posted, just because the Eagles choose to let something die and not make an issue out of something that NOBODY can even PROVE the FO said.

It's an unwinnable argument, If you take a side and say anything, then you are perceived as having started the rumor, or why else would you defend it?

So you say NOTHING, and you are perceived as covering it up.

THAT AGENDA, that everything that happens always has a reason and it's always against ME/US.

Yeah no one talks about gang ties and Jackson is never mentioned

With all due respect to everyone's opinion on this subject

I find it funny that some of you really can't see what Stephen A is trying to say. You really think that it's so far fetched for a Black person to see what Chip is doing and then wonder how it is that DeSean Jackson, LeSean McCoy, and Jeremy Maclin are gone because at lease in Jackson's and McCoy's case, they don't fit this "culture" that Chip Kelly is trying to build. Then you look at Riley Cooper, the guy who said on camera while shitfaced drunk, "I will fight every nigger in here", is still on the team and got a 25 million dollar contract after he said it. Why is it so hard to understand why some Black people would have those feelings ? It doesn't make them racists to ask why the guy who threw out the racial slur is still here, and the other guys are not. It can be perceived as Chip saying that it's okay for you to throw out the word nigger as long as you can block downfield.

                    wow

Frank Gore, Byron Maxwell, Brandon Graham. Now those guys are, last time I looked, not white. Herremans is, I think. Maybe, just maybe, he let Maclin and McCoy go because of the money. Of course, if you look for something and only see half the picture it is pretty easy to see what you want to.

Some people see it, and some don't. Does every single Black person feel that way ? Of course not, but some do.

Chip Kelly invited John Carlos to address his Oregon team in 2011. Not exactly what I would expect from a racist. Someone else mentioned his coaching hires. These are things that anyone could find out if they cared to spend 10 minutes looking into the subject. I guess it's easier to just freak out. Stephen A is a turd.

... Do you think there is anything that Chip or the Eagles can do to change that perception? Cut Cooper? Maybe get a mix of players that more in line with the league average?

                            what exactly is

" more in line with the league average" Are the Eagles the only team that has released, or traded, any non white players? Look around . There have been a vast majority of players released that were African American yet not all of them were members of the Eagles. How many white players have been released traded? Average number of players released per team by race? If you wan to talk about averages, then you should do the calculating. If you don't want to do that then try to refrain from adding two cents worth of misinformation.

Cutting Cooper might do it for some, but to others the damage has been done. Good thing for him, Chip is really good at not giving a rats ass what people think, but I don't think that he would want to walk around with this particular perception of him floating around.
