When DeSean was released, they allowed the nj.com article to control the narrative by staying silent. Since they are choosing not to address the media at events like the combine, or after trading away the franchise's leading rusher, they are allowing people like Steven A. Smith to control the narrative.
I support Kelly but he hasn't done shit in the NFL yet. I'm choosing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but others may not and that's understandable. Certain personnel decisions he made during his first years in the NFL open him to criticism, and he doesn't have the track record yet to simply tune it all out.
If he held a press conference, I guarantee a reporter will ask him how he justifies paying Riley Cooper 4.5 mil but allowing Maclin to walk and trading Shady. If he answers honestly, without arrogance, and provides a reason that makes sense, most people will accept it.
As is, everyone is forced to simply speculate. So he's allowing people to create a narrative based on their own personal 'agendas.'
